emerge @world is not working properly.

Problems with emerge or ebuilds? Have a basic programming question about C, PHP, Perl, BASH or something else?

emerge @world is not working properly.

Friday I did an emaint sync and it only updated one package where the other two gentoo boxen updated more than 50.

I tried emerge --sync a couple times and I couldn't get it to work. Then suddenly it did work. It updated more than 50.

However, some packages that need to update didn't. Today I did a simple check on qtwayland and found this out:

Code: Select all

emerge -p qtwayland

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies... done!
Dependency resolution took 8.79 s (backtrack: 0/20).

[ebuild NS ] dev-qt/qtwayland-6.10.1 [5.15.18] USE="qml%* -custom-cflags% -gnome%"
qtwayland is out of date, right?

Then I went through a huge list of accept_keywords to get to a clean emerge -q and this is what it says:

Code: Select all

emerge -puUD --backtrack=100 @world

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies... done!
Dependency resolution took 145.78 s (backtrack: 9/100).

Note: that qtwayland is not listed there. Why?

Can someone help me figure out how I borked my server?

RayDude,

You probably want to run

Code: Select all

emerge -uDUav @world
Thats --update --deep --changed-use --ask --verbose.

Neddy, the important parts are there -uDU.

RayDude, are you sure you need qtwayland:6? It doesn't look that way. If nothing pulls it, it won't update to the newer slot.

What does emerge -pvc qtwayland say?

Regarding the multiple syncs, is this machine using a different mirror? It might not sync with the master mirror as fast as the others. Or maybe it uses a rotation that by change redirrected it to a number of slower mirrors before hitting an update one.

Best Regards,
Georgi

RayDude,

do you have a stable KDE/Plasma installation (like me)?

If yes, have you installed the package "vlc"?

If yes, dont worry ... some packages need still :5 ... vlc is one of them ... see also in:

Code: Select all

# emerge -cpv qtgui

In SLOT 5, qtwayland-5.15.18 is *up to* date
In SLOT 6, portage doesn't think you really need dev-qt/qtwayland. Why do you think you do?

Thanks everyone. The reason I think I need a new qtwayland is that I can't get wayland to load with plasma.

Code: Select all

I was hoping that the reason wayland can't load was related to qtwayland being out of date.

Wayland is failing to load and since I'm logged in as mythtv, it's running mythfrontend, I think from .xinitrc:exec /usr/bin/mythfrontend. I think if I removed that, then plasma would completely fail to run. I tried wayland six months or so ago and it worked, but I had issues whose details I can't remember.

Now I just want to try it again to see how far I can get. The features look great...

Thanks for the help.

This is a completely different issue and I recommend opening a new thread in Desktop Environments.

It is not required anymore:

Everything is resolved. I can't remember how I fixed the emerge issue, but the wayland issue was the presence of a gentoo added .xinitrc in the /home/mythtv folder. It was owned by root. I changed owner, modified it and it came back? or seemed to. Anyway, I deleted it and Wayland is working now, but still buggy. I have another thread about it.
