[SOLVED] scanelf: rpath_security_checks

Problems with emerge or ebuilds? Have a basic programming question about C, PHP, Perl, BASH or something else?

[SOLVED] scanelf: rpath_security_checks

I am getting this error on only one of two machines I upgraded last night. I get it with all compiles, but most complete except for vim.

Code: Select all

scanelf: rpath_security_checks(): Security problem NULL DT_RUNPATH in /tmp/portage/app-editors/vim-9.1.1652-r1/image/usr/bin/vim
strip: x86_64-pc-linux-gnu-strip --strip-unneeded -N __gentoo_check_ldflags__ -R .comment -R .GCC.command.line -R .note.gnu.gold-version
   /usr/bin/vim
When I try to run vim I get:

Code: Select all

vim: symbol lookup error: /lib64/libncurses.so.6: undefined symbol: _nc_tiparm
Any help would be appreciated.

Compiled fine in another window. I found my 'LD_RUN_PATH' set in the bad terminal. Nevermind!

I see that you found a resolution. However, from your emerge --info:

Code: Select all

sys-devel/binutils: 2.44-r1::gentoo
This looks suspicious. 2.44-r2 was added to the tree in May 2025, and the current stable 2.44 slot is 2.44-r4. My stable system is already up to 2.45-r1 as of its last sync. On principle, I think you should investigate why your binutils is one version back, and consider moving up to current stable.

Oops, I'm sorry, I posted the wrong pastebin file from a prior post, I'm guessing around May 2025. Correct one for today: https://pastebin.com/f8TBpEbE

Thanks for looking. I do have everything working now. Ultimately this was a case of accidentally using 'su' instead of 'su -' from a shell that I have LD_RUN_PATH set for a project outside of Gentoo. Lesson learned and it should be burned in my memory now.
