With 255.22 my login session shows a black screen with a moving cross icon and I can't login into the virtual consoles either

when I revert to 255.17-r1 the kde-plasma 6 login works again :)

Are you on ~amd64?
Because the 255.22  is a ~testing package.

I see the same thing with openrc-init. Havn't really dug into troubleshooting it yet but..

supervise-daemon is not finding .pid files directly under /run, but they are there. I'm guessing there is a "chroot" in play?

Code: Select all

supervise-daemon" 'fopen: /run/agetty.tty2.pid' : No such file or directory
Detaching to start '/sbin/agetty'

Code: Select all

ls -l /run
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 5 Nov 25 13:01 agetty.tty2.pid
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 5 Nov 25 13:01 dbus.pid
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 5 Nov 25 13:01 elogind.pid
It the same type of error for other services like chronyd, dbus, iwd and sysklogd.
I had elogind to be started dynamically, not in any runlevel, and changing it to the boot runlevel didn't change anything.

User services are having trouble also. It looks like XDG_RUNTIME_DIR is unset

Code: Select all

pam_openrc[skellr][1852]: starting session
pam_openrc[skellr][1852]: 1 sessions
supervise-daemon[1877]: Supervisor command line: supervise-daemon user.skellr --start --respawn-max 3 --respawn-period 5 --notify fd:3 /usr/libexec/rc/bin/openrc-user -- skellr
supervise-daemon[1879]: Child command line: /usr/libexec/rc/bin/openrc-user skellr
skellr: XDG_RUNTIME_DIR unset, user services cannot start.
supervise-daemon[1878]: /usr/libexec/rc/bin/openrc-user, pid 1879, exited with return code 255
user.skellr[1858]: ERROR: user.skellr failed to start
supervise-daemon[1878]: /usr/libexec/rc/bin/openrc-user, pid 1892, exited with return code 1
supervise-daemon[1878]: /usr/libexec/rc/bin/openrc-user, pid 1893, exited with return code 1
supervise-daemon[1878]: /usr/libexec/rc/bin/openrc-user, pid 1894, exited with return code 1

My system isn't "broken', but the login prompt is hiding in the middle of the init output rather than appearing at the end. Pressing Enter will show it again, and except for user services, it is still functional.

There was a change that reverted a patch in 255.22-r1

sys-auth/elogind: revert patch breaking OpenRC user services
