Last line before kernel panic

Last line from kernel panic
end Kernel panic - not sycing: fatal exception in interrupt
What's going on?

You are not alone ... I have the same problem with 6.17.3 ... maybe it is related to this report:
https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=220658
(but at the moment I have no time to do a bisect; I am waiting for some days)

Does your machine have (like mine) an Intel VMD (Volume Management Device; see in "lspci -nnk")?

So, today we have 6.17.4 ... and ... maybe I am blind ... but I didnt found the patch ... maybe ... maybe because kernel development thought it is "only" 6.18 ->
* https://lore.kernel.org/all/20251014211 ... @bhelgaas/
... but ...
* https://lore.kernel.org/all/20251017072 ... @dxcv.net/

So, if you want try 6.17.4 ... but please dont be disappointed (I will test in some days - no time at the moment)

Yes, here you are

Code: Select all

0000:00:1d.0 System peripheral [0880]: Intel Corporation RST VMD Managed Controller [8086:09ab]
	Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Company Device [103c:88f9]

I went back to version 6.17.2.
Thank you again and to be honest, I manage the kernels by gentoo-sources instead of downloading them from kernel.org. It's not too urgent for me at the moment.

In 6.17.5 is now this patch:
https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/ke ... 12753dcf7b

(I am sure this will solve it; but will also test it in a few hours)

Yes, 6.17.5 is fine here.

@Fitap:

Maybe edit the title (in your first post) and add a solved and a +6.17.4
