New installkernel user, dracut problem?

  • Quote

Just tried the installkernel thing. The system won't boot with this error in rdsosreport.txt:

Code: Select all

Failed to mount -t ext4 -o rw,relatime,ro,ro /dev/disk/by-uuid/<whatever> /sysroot
Now this list of options looks strange. I tried to mount the disk from the repair shell with just -o rw and its OK. But with just -o ro it says:

Code: Select all

mount: /sysroot: /dev/sdb3 already mounted on /media/usbhd-sdb3.
dmesg(1) may have more information after failed mount system call.
mount warning:
      * sdb3: Can't mount, would change RO state
How can I fix that?

it's already mounted? I'm not sure how it's failing like that.

Was it working before or is this a new install?

Yes it looks like it is already mounted. Not sure why either.

This is a very old install (more than 10 years) but the current setup is genkernel based. I just decided to switch to installkernel and encountered this.

did you do any manual config? and switching from genkernel to dracut may require additional config, but misconfig can result in hard to diagnose failures.

What about that?

You also provided almost no information. Please share the kernel config - the one that's most probably in /boot with the same kernel version, your partitions layout, what commands did you follow.

Best Regards,
Georgi
