Kernel not recognizing your hardware? Problems with power management or PCMCIA? What hardware is compatible with Gentoo? See here. (Only for kernels supported by Gentoo.)

PCR 9 is driving me crazy , second install attempt

Code: Select all

EFI stub: Measured initrd data into PCR 9
I am attempting a second install again. I recently bought a computer to hardware in order to install gentoo and do some work yesterday I installed Luks on all 4 nvme drives and after doing all the work (installing KDE, GRUB, system config) etc i was created with the above message. After many hours, I got frustrated and decided to start again, and this time only apply the encryption to three of the drives and leave the root without luks I am still created with the same issue. What is something I can check for? I would like to do another fresh install since I want all my four drives to have LUKS on them. What do i need to pay attention to ? What is important ? This is a manual kernel compilation install.

Do you have framebuffer device and console in your kernel config enabled?

West201,

You probably have a bit missing from your kernel and possibly your initrd too.
There is no need to reinstall to fix gentoo. Its actually very difficult to break it so badly that a reinstall is required.
You only make a different mistake :)

Make sure you have EFI Framebuffer enabled in your kernel
All the others should be off. The helpers are OK.
Your DRM video driver is better built as a module as it will load firmware.
It will require linux-firmware to be installed.

I did confirm I have these enabled as built-in.

Checking the kernel I feel I have everything check marked however and I did notice that on the grub.cfg there is a line that says. /amd-uc.img When I have everything in my kernel turned off with AMD. Could that be the issue ? Strange it's there by default.

West201,

Amd-ucode.img is a microcode update for AMD cpus. There is a similar one for Intel.
Having the file missing is harmless.

Make friends with wgetpaste and put your kernel .config file onto a pastebin site.
You may need to play with the -s and -S options.
We also need the output of lspci -nnk.
That will fit into a post.
