app-editors/zed runtime: `Err` value: BadNativeWindow

This forum covers all Gentoo-related software not officially supported by Gentoo. Ebuilds/software posted here might harm the health and stability of your system(s), and are not supported by Gentoo developers. Bugs/errors caused by ebuilds from overlays.gentoo.org are covered by this forum, too.

In this respect upstream report seems to state USE=gles issue low level of priority.

latest keyworded package here...
Any experience to share with stable app-editors/zed-0.181.5 [gles]?
How does/did it behave on your side?

Thks 4 ur attention, interest & support.
USE="-* ..." in /etc/portage/make.conf here, i.e. a countermeasure to portage implicit braces, belt & diaper paradigm

I had this exact same issue and found this thread. Rebuilding app-editors/zed with -gles fixed the startup problem.

Honestly I'm not impressed by Zed so far. The thing I hate about VSCode and Sublime (besides Sublime not being OSS and vscode requiring some bits to be hacked out to be OSS) is that there are not vertical tabs. Someone started on a hack to get vertical tabs, but it was never flushed out into a full patch:

https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/discussions/24006

If I liked the editor, I might have looked into trying to get this patch clean and complete. I don't see the massive appeal in getting a 120fps throughput on an editor. It's not FPS gaming. I do realize that Pulsar (formerly Atom) is Electron cancer, but it's the only one besides IntelliJ with vertical tabs (via specific themes), and stuff like that matters more than performance. Like, opening a file and searching still happens about just as fast in every editor.
