Question about depmod

This forum covers all Gentoo-related software not officially supported by Gentoo. Ebuilds/software posted here might harm the health and stability of your system(s), and are not supported by Gentoo developers. Bugs/errors caused by ebuilds from overlays.gentoo.org are covered by this forum, too.

Question about depmod

Hi guys, I have a technical question. Is it possible to call depmod but override the default targeted kernel.

For example, if by default when I call depmod, it target /lib/modules/kernel-6.9.0, I would like to overwrite by set the path to another kernel, like /lib/modules/otherkernel-6.11.0 ?

man depmod tells me:

Code: Select all

       depmod [-b basedir] [-o outdir] [-e] [-E Module.symvers]
              [-F System.map] [-n] [-v] [-A] [-P prefix] [-w] [version]

...

If a version is provided, then that kernel version's module directory
is used rather than the current kernel version (as returned by uname
       -r).
From that, it seems like you just need depmod otherkernel-6.11.0. Did that not work for you?

I use "depmod --basedir <build dir> <kver>" to regenerate modinfo in ugrd:

It no longer sets -o as it seems to use --basedir if passed. I thin -o is if you want to use stuff based on / and then install it elsewhere.

Thank you so much for your help.

I finally find how to do. You will be very surprised.

It's depmod -w. The man page don't describe at all this xD

Per the manual page:

Code: Select all

       -w
Warn on duplicate dependencies, aliases, symbol versions, etc.
Therefore, I don't think that's the right solution. What is the full command you used that worked?
