/usr/lib64/pkgconfig/wlroots-0.20.pc in wlroots:0.19 [fixed]

This forum covers all Gentoo-related software not officially supported by Gentoo. Ebuilds/software posted here might harm the health and stability of your system(s), and are not supported by Gentoo developers. Bugs/errors caused by ebuilds from overlays.gentoo.org are covered by this forum, too.

Per the bug report, this is an ebuild for a live package, so moved to Unsupported Software. The slot likely was correct when it was written, but became wrong when upstream committed further changes. This is the risk of live ebuilds.

Report has been assigned, i.e. ebuild ought to get support ; hence the WIP annotation.

As a real source of the issue, it hasn't been stated here yet is that upstream :0.19 has been released earlier today.

Let's wait & see how long we'll have to wait for a keyworded ;19 ebuild.
Betting for the best though.

9999 ebuild will consequently be reslotted to :0.20 to match its current behavior.

From the main meson.build

Code: Select all

project(
  'wlroots', 'c',
  version: '0.20.0-dev',
So 20 is correct, as of right now.

What Hu said was correct, when the 9999 ebuild was done, the version was 0.19.0-dev it was changed today.
All that's required is for the slot to change. Personally I think having a slot for 9999 is wrong, or the slot should simply be "9999"

This is the nature of live versions, they can change at the drop of a hat.

CaptainBlood: as a reminder, one way for threads to end up in Unsupported Software is because they discuss a problem exclusive to a live ebuild, meaning the problem could disappear at any time if upstream makes an improvement, or the situation could worsen at any time if upstream makes a change that conflicts with the ebuild. (Such changes are not necessarily bugs on the part of upstream. It could be as simple as that the live ebuild applies a patch to a file that upstream modifies in a way that breaks the patch.) Live ebuilds are not necessarily unsupported by the Gentoo maintainer for the package, but they are separated from the forum discussions of non-live ebuilds, since the latter do not generally experience spontaneous breakage or spontaneous improvement. Non-live ebuilds get better or worse in reaction to changes by their Gentoo maintainer. Live ebuilds experience that, and also experience changes as upstream publishes new commits.

Keeping things working is what counts here.
As an efficiency wise temporary workaround, duplicating wlroots-9999.ebuild to local repository as wlroots-0.19.0 worked like a charm here.

Contribute the necessary change or waste someone else's time in the forums. For some reason you keep only doing the latter.
