[blocks B ] net-misc/iputils[arping(+)] ("net-misc/iputils[arping(+)]" is soft blocking net-analyzer/arping-2.25)

I did this:

Code: Select all

sudo eselect repository enable pentoo
sudo emerge --sync
sudo eix-update
sudo emerge -va airgeddon
I get this error:

Code: Select all

[I] atavistic11@netbook ~ [1]> sudo emerge -p airgeddon

Welcome to the forums.

Your problem is with a package from an overlay, so moved to Unsupported Software. That said, we can still try to help you.
atavistic11 wrote:[blocks B ] net-misc/iputils[arping(+)] ("net-misc/iputils[arping(+)]" is soft blocking net-analyzer/arping-2.25)
You cannot simultaneously install both net-misc/iputils[arping(+)] and =net-analyzer/arping-2.25. Normally, you should not need both, since iputils[arping] would provide the same utility as the standalone package arping.
atavistic11 wrote:I get this error:

[I] atavistic11@netbook ~ [1]> sudo emerge -p airgeddon
Invalid package name in package.provided: net-analyzer/arping
You should fix or remove your package.provided entry.

From a quick review of the ebuilds in ::gentoo, it looks like standard practice is to depend on one-of these two, rather than specifically requiring net-analyzer/arping. Why is this overlay forcing use of one specific package?

You should read your news. It is usually important.

Thank you! I fixed my package.provide adding the version number, now I can install airgeddon, lets see if it works.

Code: Select all

[I] atavistic11@netbook ~> cat /etc/portage/profile/package.provided
net-analyzer/arping-2.25
[I] atavistic11@netbook ~>
[I] atavistic11@netbook ~> sudo emerge -va airgeddon

And yes I'm gonna read the news now.

net-misc/iputils[arping] and net-analyzer/arping both install /usr/bin/arping, so they cannot be installed simultaneously.
Either rebuild net-misc/iputils without the arping USE flag and install the standalone net-analyzer/arping (net-misc/networkmanager rdepends on either/or), or fix the net-wireless/airgeddon ebuild to allow net-misc/iputils[arping] to satisfy the dependency, e.g.

Code: Select all

RDEPEND="
        || (
                net-misc/iputils[arping]
                net-analyzer/arping
        )
::pentoo ebuilds are notoriously broken, one should probably file an issue as well.

Hu wrote:Why is this overlay forcing use of one specific package?
Probably just ::pentoo things, Mr. Ninja. :P I don't think I've managed to install a single package from that repo without needing to fix something.
Once is happenstance. Twice is coincidence. Three times is enemy action. Four times is Official GNOME Policy.

Add -std=gnu90 to CFLAGS using package.env for this package as a workaround. (Fixing the pointer with a patch is safer overall)
