Securing a FZ-G1 Toughpad - Unlocking Encrypted Root

  • Quote

Hey everyone, I'm trying to figure out how I can secure a Panasonic Toughpad FZ-G1 with a LUKS encrypted root partition.

As it has no keyboard, but six hardware buttons and a touchscreen/stylus, I'm not sure how I could input a password at boot to decrypt root.

Do I have any options aside from putting a LUKS key on a USB and inserting that at boot? There are limited combinations of keys I can assign to the hardware buttons in BIOS (F2, F12, etc).

People managed to make use of the touchscreen to put in decryption passwords.
I don't know any project that is dedicated to solve this issue though.

Hey thanks for the reply gorg, I've been doing a bunch of research on this and now I'm trying to find a good on-screen keyboard and all I can find are half-baked projects which appear to be abandoned.

The best I've been able to get so far is to make an on-screen keyboard appear once I launch it from terminal; but it isn't popping up whenever I need to submit text input, so it's not very useful. I'm going to have to make a thread specific to on-screen keyboards and get that figured out first I think.

I tried a generic x86_64 PostmarketOS build on an FZ-M1 MK3 and the touchscreen works for putting in the key.
It uses unl0kr for that https://gitlab.postmarketos.org/postmar ... ter/unl0kr
I'll try it with another distro later, Alpine Linux isn't my cup of tea.
