(i wasn't able to read the logs in this post, so i don´t now if my post is a duplicate - sorry if it is)

When i do emerge --ask --oneshot net-libs/webkit-gtk i get an error at step "[3184/6969}":

Do you build it in tmpfs ? If yes, make sure that you have enough memory, or add a swap partition to your system.
Else, build it outside of tmpfs.

Not strickt related, but
you build the packages with a outdated toolchain
sys-devel/binutils: 2.39-r5::gentoo (this version is already hard masked)
sys-devel/gcc: 12.3.1_p20230526 (this version don't exist anymore in ::gentoo repo)

Apart from net-libs/webkit-gtk-2.44.1-r410 and app-text/evince-45.0 there are two other packages which can't be emerged: gome-base/gnome-settings-daemon and gnome-base/gnome-control-center

Hm ok, then set with binutils-config and gcc-config the latest stable version.

Then, on the app-text/evince build error - here should a

emerge -av --oneshot /usr/lib64/libgnome-desktop-3.so

rebuild help.
After this try a normal @world update.

This is an annoying issue which keeps popping up but we haven't got to the bottom of it yet. The suggested advice above will work though, just not yet sure why it's happening. It's unclear why the versioned symbols sometimes just.. aren't there?

We got to the bottom of it. It happens when building libxkbcommon with older Binutils. See https://github.com/xkbcommon/libxkbcomm ... 2190207538.

i started a full world emerge emerge --ask --update --newuse --deep @world.
Now not only did app-text/evince-45.0 emerge successfully, but also webkit-gtk-24--r401 as well as gnome-base/gnome-settings-daemon-45.1 (which also refused to emerge in earlier attempts).

Now i am left with one more package which fails, and a number of skipped packages due to a dependency conflict (concerning dev-libs/icu: some packages want version 74.1 and others want 75.1).

But as my original problem is solved, i mark this thread a solved.
