NVIDIA PRIME - can't get Intel set as default GPU

NVIDIA PRIME - can't get Intel set as default GPU

Hello,

I've tried to set up NVIDIA PRIME to be able to use my Intel GPU (HD 4000) as a default one, and my NVIDIA GPU (GeForce GT 720M) when needed. These are the steps I've made to get NVIDIA working:
  • I've added these two parameters to kernel command line:

    GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="nvidia-drm.modeset=1 drm_kms_helper.edid_firmware=edid/monitor.bin
  • I've created /etc/X11/xorg.conf file:

I don't know why, but NVIDIA is the first one on the list...

I can't get Intel to work, it's either NVIDIA working or nothing at all, when i mess up xorg.conf for example I get one provider (modesetting) but no acceleration at all... :roll: Can anybody point out what am I doing wrong? And why in this configuration NVIDIA is the default GPU? All these steps were found on Gentoo Wiki, on this forum or somwhere else. Usually people can't get two providers to work, I can't get Intel to work properly not mentioning to switch between the two...

When I change order in xorg.conf, so Intel is the first GPU, desktop environment boots up but I get error in Xorg.0.log, there's no acceleration and only one provider in xrandr...

In this log above I get the following error: "(EE) Failed to initialize GLX extension (Compatible NVIDIA X driver not found)". As far as I understand it tries to load Nvidia GLX extension, but I dont' know why it doesn't try to load anything related to Intel...

This is mine for comparison. I set this up years ago and the only thing I clearly remember is what a huge pain it was. Took ages. I use prime-run to invoke the nvidia chip. I don't have an equivalent to your /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/30-nvidia-offload.conf

Without this file NVIDIA doesn't work, even though xorg.conf contains the same entry...
