Firefox: 'Accept All' cookie banning beta feature...

This forum covers all Gentoo-related software not officially supported by Gentoo. Ebuilds/software posted here might harm the health and stability of your system(s), and are not supported by Gentoo developers. Bugs/errors caused by ebuilds from overlays.gentoo.org are covered by this forum, too.

Firefox: 'Accept All' cookie banning beta feature...

  • Quote

Post by CaptainBlood » Sat Nov 18, 2023 3:44 pm

Just discovered a firefox feature that seems to have been boiled for about a year.

Code: Select all

about:config
cookiebanners.ui.desktop.enabled bool defaults to false
Switching that value to true will show a cookie banning feature in Preferences.
Activating the feature will set

Code: Select all

about:config
cookiebanners.service.mode.privateBrowsing defaulted to 0 to 1.
Firefox will magically select 'Reject All' when available, fallbacking to 'Accept All' if missing.

Alternatively manual setting of

Code: Select all

about:config
cookiebanners.service.mode.privateBrowsing to 2
should allow to avoid the fallback mechanism described above. (Untested)

The feature is expected in Preferences any soon.
Side note: Unsure if the feature activation makes sense when browsing out of EU.

Thks 4 ur attention, interest & support.

USE="-* ..." in /etc/portage/make.conf here, i.e. a countermeasure to portage implicit braces, belt & diaper paradigm

Thx for bringing this to my attention, I wonder if this works reliably.
And yes even in the EU that would be useful, because many websites have very nasty cookie selection menus that make it impossible to not accept everything.
If you use "annoyance blocklists" that get rid of the cookie selection menus, the sites break on purpose.
