Just try a full update

Code: Select all

emerge -uDUav --with-bdeps=y --keep-going @world

I made the switch some time back without issues. I added the then current version of dev-libs/openssl-3 to package.accept_keywords and did @world update.

Try

Code: Select all

emerge --deselect openssl
emerge -uDUav --with-bdeps=y --keep-going @world

If you need testing version of openssl make an entry without version in package.accept_keywords

Code: Select all

dev-libs/openssl ~amd64
but this might cause problems if you are running stable.

Okay, I thought I had done that, but apparently not, because it came up with one package requiring an update: pim-common. Unfortunately the update of pim-common fails:

Code: Select all

 emerge -uDUav --with-bdeps=y --keep-going @world

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

dev-libs/openssl ~amd64
but this might cause problems if you are running stable.
There was no entry for openssl in the world file. The "~amd64" was already selected as the machine has always (since installation) been running the testing branch. The results are exactly the same as before.

I can make an entry for it in "package.accept_keywords" and, indeed, the problem might well be that I have the keywords wrong for the package, but then I need to know what keyword(s) I have wrong.

Try

Code: Select all

echo "=dev-libs/ktextaddons-1.3.0" > /etc/portage/package.mask/ktextaddons
emerge -uDUav --with-bdeps=y --keep-going @world

OK, that solved the problem with compiling pim-common, but otherwise the problem upgrading openssl is exactly the same as before.

There is not usually an entry for openssl in the world file unless for some reason you explicitly installed it and want it that way. Often it is pulled in as a dependency.

Yes, that is effectively what I did, but the problem with upgrading openssl remains, and without the upgrade to openssl, I can't upgrade urllib, which is the dependency that keeps getting skipped.

The skipped upgrade is fine. The default Ruby target right now doesn't support openssl 3. That will be changing in a week or so (covered in many threads on the forums recently). It's also unrelated to urllib3 which is an issue with another Python package (need to wait until requests gets a new version supporting it). There's another recent thread about urllib3 saying this.

In any case, all you have to do is wait.
