Pluma on MATE crashes on CTRL shortcuts [FIXED-UPSTREAM?]

This has been happening since my last update.

Whenever I use a shortcut for copy, paste, save, etc... Pluma just crashes with a "buffer overflow detected" error message, instantly.

I had a look around the internet, and this error apparently got fixed last summer?

As I use pluma as my primary "plain text" editor, having my reflexive copy and save keypressed crash the editor is immensely frustrating.

Is anyone able to help?

With the limited information provided, I expect you will get limited help. I suggest providing the following:

When you last updated
The version of pluma and all its dependencies before the update, and after
The standard emerge --info, preferably as emerge --verbose --info app-editors/pluma category/package-of-each-pluma-dependency.
A stacktrace, with symbols, of the crash. Since this is a buffer overflow, it is likely terminating the process with a SIGKILL, which could make this a bit more difficult. A breakpoint on the overflow handler function (__stack_chk_fail) should work. When the breakpoint is hit, print the backtrace, then post it.

I was holing for either "this is a known bug, just do <X> in your config files" or "here's the list of things we need to help you fix this".

How would I run Pluma to get this? Pretend I know nothing about how Portage works.

You could use lddtree on pluma, or you could try to work it out from the RDEPEND in its ebuild, possibly recursively through the RDEPEND of those ebuilds. You might get away with excluding any packages that have not been updated since the last known good run.

Note that if you have not rebuilt with debugging symbols, this may not be very informative. However, you could try once without it and hope you get lucky.
