Preparing to install, please I need advices

Having problems with the Gentoo Handbook? If you're still working your way through it, or just need some info before you start your install, this is the place. All other questions go elsewhere.

Hello and thank you for this beautiful community.
Last time I installed Gentoo, there was problem with wifi drivers. I have intel wifi drivers, iwl wifi drivers.
Can I install with this method ? I need desktop profile Gentoo.

viewtopic-p-8597910.html

Should I skip genkernel install ?

Or should I update one year old gentoo with working drivers ? I had problems with Llvm and other dependencies and compile time that was too long on my machine.

Thank you.

Maybe I don't understand. Why is compile time an issue? Do you not have access to the machine 24/7? Or is it a heating issue?

If you want to update/reinstall, you can just let the compilers run in the background for as long as it takes. If you're installing, you can install the entire system, then reboot at the end. I do that routinely. You never have to stop using your machine except when you're ready to reboot.

If it's a heat issue, just throttle the process until the heat is manageable. You could also use binary packages to avoid some of the compiling.

If it were me, I'd try to update rather than reinstall.

You just need to be careful with your kernel build, if you had driver issues last time...make sure it's properly configured and includes the necessary firmware. Take your time and complete each step carefully and you should be fine. Ask for help if you get stuck somewhere. All the best with the new install.

Try the rescue stick/ bootable ISO first and check whether your WiFi is recognized and configurable. If this is the case, simply copy the appropriate kernel config during your installation. (Booted ISO has /proc/config.gz and lsmod shows modules being loaded - a good starting point to have a suitable running kernel that can be tuned/ hardened later.)
