dev-java/openjdk wants to pull in X dependancies

Problems with emerge or ebuilds? Have a basic programming question about C, PHP, Perl, BASH or something else?

dev-java/openjdk wants to pull in X dependancies

Hello, I am new to gentoo, so far I am enjoying it a lot (even thinking of switching my main os to it)
I have a vps running aarch64 on which I am running gentoo. When trying to emerge dev-java/openjdk it wants to pull in X dependencies even though I have the headless-awt use flag set
Here is the output of emerge --ask --verbose dev-java/openjdk

Code: Select all

gentoo /etc/portage # emerge --ask --verbose dev-java/openjdk

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Note that --tree may help narrow it down a bit. Java is kind of confusing in that it requires a bunch of stuff to build but not to run too (see the ebuild).

Thanks for the reply, from my understanding its java itsself thats trying to pull in the X11 stuff

Code: Select all

gentoo ~ # emerge --ask --verbose --tree dev-java/openjdk

edit: looking at the ebuild, it seems like java requires X stuff even with headless mode? :( line 55-62, am I reading it wrong? if not, will they be removed with emerge --depclean?

Ive learned that Rdepend is for runtime, and normal depend is for building, reverse of what I thought earlier
it seems the X11 stuff is required to build java, thanks for the help earlier

You can try with "emerge -p --depclean --with-bdeps=n" …but you'll need to reinstall them again next time there's an update.

Note that it's pulling in some x11 libraries, it's not pulling in xorg-server itself.
