gabrielm79,

Code: Select all

Oct 25 09:37:07 spiti kernel: kscreenlocker_g[11900]: segfault at 8 ip 00007efe7ee1952a sp 00007ffc0b10f610 error 4 in libQt5Core.so.5.15.2[7efe7ebff000+2a8000]
Does it happen every time or is it random.

If its random, its almost certainly hardware.
Every time, it may still be hardware but if it were software, kscreenlocker would be all over the forums. Its not. However your hardware could have have made a compile error that is only detected at run time.
It is an old machine
Thats a hint, maybe. Is it overheating?
Does it only happen when the system is working hard?

gabrielm79,

We need a trivial test case to trigger the problem.

First boot into memtest86. Do not run it inside linux or it can't test all the RAM.
If it finds problems, you have a RAM subsystem problem.

If that's OK, run prime95. Thats a CPU and CPU cooling stress test.
Problem with that are often CPU cooling, especially on old systems, where the cooling system has become choked, or the heatsink compound has migrated away.

NeddySeagoon thanks again.

I've installed memtest in boot. When running in bootup i have two options in grub menu a) Memtest and b) Memtest (ELF)
When running a) it just reboots when running b) i take a blue screen and stucks

I tried to run memtest via a live cd. Memtest stucks at 42%

Is any other way to check out memory?

Thank you!

gabrielm79,

To boot mentest, it has me be built like the kernel. A liveCD that offers memtest as a boot option is good though.

Some tests in memtest are very slow so is it actually stopped or running a slow test?

While memtest runs as a boot option, it moves itself around in RAM, so it can test the whole of RAM, even the part where memtest was loaded an ran from originally.

Canr you post a picture on an image hosting site of memtest stuck, then wait of 30 min and post another image?
We can see what test its on an if there was any progress reported.
memtest han a run time counter. Does that stop?

Tells us about your RAM.
How much do you have, how many sticks and so on.
The output of

Code: Select all

dmidecode -t memory
on a bastebin site will tell all that we need to know.

NeddySeagoon thank you
I have 6 memory sticks of 2GB each .
What do you mean to be built like the kernel?
I will upload pics asap.

gabrielm79,

Code: Select all

Memory Controller Information
        Error Detecting Method: 8-bit Parity
        Error Correcting Capabilities:
                None
        Supported Interleave: One-way Interleave
        Current Interleave: One-way Interleave
Maximum Memory Module Size: 1024 MB
Maximum Total Memory Size: 6144 MB
That's a little scary. It say that your memory controller works with a maximum total memory size of 6G but you have 12G fitted.

That may or may not matter. I have a server with 16G fitted and a specified maximum of 8G.

When you boot a program, it has to be entirely self contained. It cannot call on the kernel fol video output, memory management, keyboard input.
Its said to be running on the 'bare metal. That needs special preparation.
That it runs at all indicates that all is well there.

That it freezes on the first test indicates a problem.

Remove three sticks of RAM but record which one goes in which slot. It may be important later.
Run memtest with half the RAM removed.

If it fails, remove the three sticks that failed and put the three sticks not part of that test, back into their original slots.
Does memtest work now?

The idea is to test RAM and RAM slots.
Regards,

NeddySeagoon

NeddySeagoon thanks and sorry for late reply.

I will do it but problem is i have to move away mobo from the case. It i has a big cool master cooler and memory slots are under this.
So it will take some time to do it.
I will report when i will be able to do it.
