To remove KDE 3.1.5, try

emerge unmerge kdebase-3.1.5

and same thing for all package of KDE. To find them, try

qpkg -d

That print all dump packages . Don't forget to remove old version of arts, too.

Hi,

I have the same problem as lbrtuk.
Emerging kde 3.2 fails when kdegraphics is being emerged.

Hi,

Just tried both of the xmms-arts versions and neither worked for me either. The pain of it is that, when arts is managing sound, Xine's sound is gone. The message you get is:

audio_alsa_out: >>> check if another program don't already use PCM <<<

Disabling the sound hardware from the arts menu doesn't help either.

You are sure that you have enabled all local protocols (especially the file protocol) on the "previews and metadata" (that's a guess of the english name) panel in the preferences of konqueror? I worked for me the first time without enabling them, but the second time i had to...

kdeaddons is still failing for me, but it doesn't look like it has anything to do with kdegames. I emerged all the other packages and addons still fails...

Ok, re-emerging libsdl fixed it, thanks! Couple things changed ...

1. going from -r2 to -r3
2. libsdl was emerged with gcc 3.2, now it compiled with 3.3, the same as I was using for KDE

When I start KDE (I use kdm), it's pretty annoying it doesn't load my .bashrc. I've read help, and I know I should edit my .xsession.
But, for non-kde programs it's hard to load an environment now.
For instance xChat doesn't find any LANG value, and it doesn't start in Spanish. And Emacs doesnt find CVSROOT, so I cannot use CVS under Emacs.
Is there any workaround for this?

I've got it.
KDE's documentation doesn't inform where it reads environment variables from. I moved a few things from .bash_profile to .profile and I have it working now.

anyone there who misses the <tab> completion when filling out forms? konqui suggests an entry but to choose it i can't hit <tab> as i used to but have to use the down arrow. i haven't found any setting for this behaviour so far...

any chance to persuade kde that it should open a konsole without borders? i may change the konsole window settings to my liking and then save the settings with "ALT & F3", but this affects that it loads my konsole everytime at the location i closed it the last time which i don't want because i use a lot of virtual desktops.

Try unmerging automake and then emerge it again and then do a

Thanks for the answer, but it still does not want to work.

emerge kde-base WANT_AUTOCONF=2.5
gives an error, he tries to compile the package "WANT_AUTOCONF=2.5"

so I did
# export WANT_AUTOCONF=2.5
# emerge kdebase
--> same error..

downgrading autoconf 2.59-r3 to 2.58-r1 at the moment...

mmh.. is there something mixed up with autoconf and automake?

I umerged (and merged again) both autoconf and automake and did
# export WANT_AUTOMAKE=2.5
# export WANT AUTOCONF=1.8
checked with
# autoconf --version
--> 2.59
# automake --version
--> 1.8.2

Stlll the same error.

well..
I can't do that.. at least not "stable"
There is quite a big bunch of packages that require other packages that are masked. I'm not sure I want to upgrade to "unstable".. going to think about that for some minutes..
and I don't think I can downgrade everything to unmasked Versions.. (slow CPU, no time)

well.. KDE 3.14 works fine with kdelibs 3.2.0, so it ain't anything that might kill me
