We are not able to delete accounts, but we can anonymize it by replacing the username with the UID # and removing your email address.

Hi friends. Could you please change my username to "baak6"? Ideally without a paper trail since I don't want my real name to be easily linked to it. Thanks.

An administrator can change your username, and likely will. However, anyone who has ever used "Reply-with-quote" will have pasted a copy of your then-current username into their post, as text in the attribution. Locating and anonymizing all those is a fair amount of trouble, since it is just free text, rather than markup or a delayed lookup. I would not be surprised if nobody volunteers to do that much work. (If there were a compelling legal order, that would be different.) It gets even worse if anyone ever addressed you by name, because then posts need to be scoured not just for quote tags, but read in detail, looking for your name, and any misspellings that likely meant to be your name. Additionally, even if someone did locate and scrub all those, various third party archives might still quote your posts, with a credit to your original username.

Thanks for the response. I understand. I had a quick look and there's actually just one thread that mentions my name: https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-p-8228138.html

As it's my real name I'd really appreciate if someone could edit it out given it's just a couple of posts, but totally understand if that's too much work.

Most of the work would be in tracking down all the places to cleanse. Since you've done that, it's quick enough to rewrite the text. I've edited the cited thread to make the following changes:

Deleted two instances of $oldname ..., since it was relatively clear even without that who was being addressed.
Rewrote the quote tags that cited $oldname to follow the style I used in my post above, linking to the profile, but showing no username.
