debugging steam? [SOLVED]

ALright - so I'm now supremely confident my system is running as it should be, with only a couple minor hiccups between fresh installation and now... And again to check out my hardware, I installed steam the other night, downloaded warthunder, and I get the following when I try to launch it:

I looked up what I could find about the vulkan errors, and tried emerging the ~amd64 vulkan libraries. I also found various mentions that the VK_KHR extensions were unneccessary. I was getting more font messages, followed the gentoo steam troubleshooting how to and am still getting what you see here (logged out, restarted X).

I'm not certain how to debug this, but this time I'm confident I've got no problems with the kernel (it's genkernel all, w/ nouveau removed), I see amdgpu in lsmod, and X has been bullet proof. I can run glxgears and get 60 frames / sec.

What do you gurus see above that can lead me to fix this? Any insight is greatly appreciated!

Thanks, but I'm striking out with that too... I hadn't seen it but thanks. I'm seeing something related to the driver, while those other problems are related to the launcher. If I run the launcher in the app directory, I get the same behavior, not like the other bug you linked to.

I get a pop up that tells me "Your video card or it's (sic) driver may not be supported. Be sure to install the best video card driver and try again"

The solution was as simple as the pop-up indicated... install the latest driver.

Apparently now amdgpu isn't enough, you need amdgpu_pro. I installed it per wiki, any everything works like a dream.

Now I'm trying to get sound working. I'm sure I'll be posting questions about that soon...

That's an odd solution since WarThunder will run just fine without the AMDGPU-Pro driver, in fact I find the AMDGPU Vulkan to be a pinch faster than the -pro version. I suspect your AMDGPU Vulkan drivers were not set up correctly. These are provided by Mesa.

How is your Mesa installed?

Interesting... FWIW, the performance with amdgpu_pro seemed pretty good... It was reporting a couple/few hundred fpa, but I'm not sure what that really means if the refresh rate is ~60Hz. I'm not really building the machine for gaming, just testing out the hardware. I set it for highest quality everything, i looked pretty damn good, and the CPU plateaued at ~60 C after ~10 minutes.

My vulkan-overlay use flag is different... The gentoo wiki for amdgpu makes no mention of vulkan at all, I only set it globally after digging into some of my initial problems. So at some point, I definitely did not have the vulkan use flag set, however I did set it trying to debug this.

What do you get using vulkan-overlay - could that be the problem?

In either case, all is OK now.

Weird, dunno *shrug*. Vulkan-overlay shouldn't make or break the setup.

I can send you all use flags i had to use to get rid of almost all warnings ... except for vulkan, vulkan gentoo packages does not fix the warning... i just installed dota game, enabled vulkan support, the launcher itself got the files and warnings went away.
Long story short, all warnings get fixed when 32bits package version is installed. (abi_x86_32). By the way, launcher and games works perfect even whit all warnings, at least for me.

Now, im trying to fix this, becouse for some reason i dont know yet, appmenu-gtk-module whit abi_x86_32 flag in package.use only compiles the 64bits version ... maybe i can get help here:
