[SOLVED] Manifest verification failed

[UPDATE -- SOLVED] Not sure why the "emerge --sync gentoo" kept failing even after I had "rm -r /var/db/repos/gentoo/*" which should have sync'd a complete new tree. Anyhow, I gave emerge-webrsync a try to download a clean portage tarball and it worked without problems.

but the command is failing with the following error message:

After the command finishes, it still leaves this directory /var/db/repos/gentoo/.tmp-unverified-download-quarantine/
and does not copy the Profiles from that directory to /var/db/repos/gentoo/Profiles
so /etc/portage/make.profile symlink is broken (and emerge won't work without valid profile).

I've run the sync a couple times with same result and don't want to get banned.
