Alternatives to smartctl?

Iam looking for an alternative to smartctl and HDsentinel for a software iam currently working on.

Iam currently working on a automated disk wiper that makes certificates.

The problem with smartctl is the newer version requires additional arguments for different raid cards / enclosures.

When doing drives in mass on different storage devices this causes a nightmare in the scripting.

Does anyone know any other way to get smart info from a drive without using smartctl and HDSentinel?
