gosh, that bug is so old, i wonder if its still relevant...

that said, i can't say i've had a huge delay in stopping squid, how long is too long? i wonder if there is a difference in using cache_mem over cache_dir for storage in terms of startup/shutdown to allocate/free large amounts of memory... if that's the case, it might be worth enabling huge pages. :)

Try adjusting this.

# TAG: shutdown_lifetime time-units
# When SIGTERM or SIGHUP is received, the cache is put into
# "shutdown pending" mode until all active sockets are closed.
# This value is the lifetime to set for all open descriptors
# during shutdown mode. Any active clients after this many
# seconds will receive a 'timeout' message.
#Default:
# shutdown_lifetime 30 seconds

ah yes, i completely forgot about that... i copied most of my squid config from a working smoothwall router installation, and they have that set to 5. that would explain why i don't see slowness... oops.
