problem with copy and paste in alacritty [SOLVED]

Dear All,

I am running gentoo amd64 stable on a kaveri box.

I have just reinstalled. I am trying to avoid installing LXDE and KDE etc.

I have installed

Code: Select all

 i3
window manager,

Code: Select all

alacritty
and

Code: Select all

aterm
terminals.

The problem I have is that I can't get the copy and paste functions to work in either of these terminals.

It doesn't work in xterm either.

I googled around and found suggestions saying install

Code: Select all

 xclip
and

Code: Select all

 xsel
(I think that is the correct spelling).

I did it and it didn't fix the problem.

In the past when I have installed either LXDE or KDE etc the copy and paste function has worked OK.

There all these recommendations on google to check whether copy and paste is working or not.

If you do the ordinary bog standard

Code: Select all

 ctrl C
and then

Code: Select all

 ctrl V
(having first selected the text with the mouse using a left button click)
in either LXDE or KDE it works.

But maybe something odd has happened here.

I think I already tried

Code: Select all

ctrl shift C
and

Code: Select all

 ctrl shift V
and it didn't work either.

I could try

Code: Select all

ctrl C ctrl V
and twiddling the mouse wheel while using a pogo stick etc but I suspect this won't help.

Does anyone have any suggestions here?

Regards

Did you try selecting the text with the mouse and then pasting it with the middle mouse button?

Many thanks again.

I have two keys, right and left on the mouse and a wheel.

I tried using the wheel and left key etc with the copy and paste commands but it didn't help.

So I emerged the

Code: Select all

 enlightenment terminology
terminal.

I then set up two terminology terminals adjacent to two

Code: Select all

alacritty
terminals in

Code: Select all

 i3
.

I could copy and paste text OK between the two terminology terminals but not from the terminology terminal to the alacritty terminals
or between the alacritty terminals etc.

They still don't work properly.

But the terminology one does.

So at least I have one terminal that does actually work now.

Regards

I also have a mouse with left/right buttons and a central wheel. In order to paste text you need to press the central wheel. At least this works fine on my i3 system with rxvt-unicode terminals.

Thanks again.

I emerged libreoffice.

When I did it a lot of extra packages were pulled in.

I tried the ctrl shift C / ctrl shift V copy and paste method again and this time it worked......

Go figure.

Ordinary ctrl C/ctrl V still doesn't work.

I have never had a linux install copy and paste set up work in this way before.

They have always worked with the ctrl C/ ctrl V commands.

The problem is fixed.

Regards
