Portage error - perl-5.8.2-r2

Problems with emerge or ebuilds? Have a basic programming question about C, PHP, Perl, BASH or something else?

Upon trying a emerge -uD world I get the error:

Code: Select all

!!! ERROR: There appears to be FILE SYSTEM CORRUPTION. A file that is listed
!!! as existing is not capable of being stat'd. If you are using an
!!! experimental kernel, please boot into a stable one, force an fsck,
!!! and ensure your filesystem is in a sane state. 'shutdown -Fr now'
!!!        File:  /var/tmp/portage/perl-5.8.2-r1/image/usr/share/man/man3/Hash::Util.tmp
!!! Error: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: '/var/tmp/portage/perl-5.8.2-r1/image/usr/share/man/man3/Hash::Util.tmp'
bash-2.05b#
It seems to be in the final stages of updating the package too. On a strange sidenote, the file itself is there exactly as listed...? Any ideas?
thanks

I think this problem appears on ext3 partitions and it could be related to a bug of this file system when the b-trees option is set.
I have the same problem on two different systems, both with /var on a ext3 partition.

That is what I will try when I have some time:

- Unmount the partition where /var is (my root partition)
- Disable b-trees hash search with
tune2fs ^dir_index /dev/"my root partition"
- Try to emerge perl again
- Reenable dir_index with tune2fs

Hope it will work.

Ok, it worked on one of my systems :D :D
That's exactly what I did:

1) Booted with a live CD taking care not to mount my root partion
2) Applied tune2fs -O ^dir_index /dev/<root partition>
3) Rebooted into gentoo
4) Re-emerged perl

Steps 1) and 2) can be used to reset b-trees search on your root partition file system with tune2fs -O dir_index /dev/<root partition>.

I think only the partition with /var must be modified like that. In my case it is the root partition.

Hope to have helped
