vmware-workstation-12 not working, libpango undefined symbol

  • Quote

Post by Massimo B. » Tue Nov 13, 2018 7:53 am

I'm using app-emulation/vmware-workstation (12.5.9.7535481 currently) from the vmware Overlay for a long time now, but since a while it doesn't start anymore due to symbols not found:

Code: Select all

appLoader| I125: Loading shipped version of libgdkmm-2.4.so.1.
appLoader| W115: Unable to load libgdkmm-2.4.so.1 from /opt/vmware/lib/vmware/lib/libgdkmm-2.4.so.1/libgdkmm-2.4.so.1: /usr/lib64/libpangomm-1.4.so.1: undefined symbol: _ZN4Glib6ObjectC2EOS0_
appLoader| W115: Unable to load dependencies for /opt/vmware/lib/vmware/lib/libvmware.so/libvmware.so
appLoader| W115: Unable to execute vmware.
We had a long discussion on https://github.com/gentoo/vmware/issues/44 and I'm out of ideas now.

If I get this right and try to apply the hint to vmware-workstation, my command would be:

Code: Select all

$ LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/opt/vmware/lib/vmware/lib /opt/vmware/lib/vmware/bin/vmware
But doesn't work either.

And without last lib in LD_PATH

Code: Select all

LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/opt/vmware/lib/vmware /opt/vmware/lib/vmware/bin/vmware
Anyway I confirm that vmware in a stable system work. I'm not sure if problem is glib-2.56 but with glib-2.52 work

Probably not work because ebuild remove bundled libraries

Code: Select all

...
                for libname in ${BUNDLED_LIBS} ; do
                        rm -rv "${S}"/lib/lib/${libname} || die "Failed removing bundled ${libname}"
                done
...

As said in the upstream ticket, I tried with USE="bundled-libs" and with USE="-bundled-libs".

But LD_LIBRARY_PATH workaround you tried with bundled-libs or without?

Have you tried re-emerging dev-cpp/pangomm before running it ?

Of course, I did some

Code: Select all

FEATURES="-ccache" emerge -atv teamviewer -e --keep-going --jobs=6 --load-average=20
Yes, maybe ccache was the reason, but for this emptyworld rebuild I did it completely without ccache.
