[SOLVED] vmware player cannot start the network

Hi,

I just installed VMWare player on my Gentoo system. Everything seems to work but the networks.

When I launch /etc/init.d/vmware start, I got this:

* Caching service dependencies ... [ ok ]
* Starting VMware USB Arbitrator ... [ !! ]
* Starting VMware services ... [ ok ]
* Starting VMware networks ...
Failed to initialize [ !! ]
* ERROR: vmware failed to start

The error comes from the command: /opt/vmware/bin/vmware-networks --start

I tried to use the verbose, but it doesn't add anything relevant. I don't know exactly what is going wrong ?

Ok, I found my problem. I had not run emerge --config vmware-player.

This thread is old as the hills, but it's the second time recently it's helped me solve this problem. Also of note, if your network connections are failing to initialize you might also want to check if there's a lock file/directory at /etc/vmware/networking.lck/. I had to remove this directory in my case and rerun `emerge --config vmware-workstation` to get things working again.
