Tried openoffice-bin (1.1.0) and it works but you need to put
FEATURES="-sandbox" in make.conf before it will run the setup.

@interrupt storm: Added :)

@exactt: Welcome to gentoo :) You are straight into gentoo64 hey! That is good news, I was trying to get mjpegtools working, so I'll try that when I get home tonight, as well as transcoder and dvdrip for that matter :)

@Q: Added yours, thanks for the info. Which version of gnome btw?

I thought I remembered a patch for the font manager in gnome, maybe wrong?? ..... have you tried looking on buzilla? (link on the first port)

"Quanta 3.2 Bleeding Edge" compiled and installed manually, then compiled and installed just fine after creating an ebuild for it.

ndis wrapper

Post by varikin » Wed Jan 28, 2004 7:09 pm

I am trying to get my belkin wlan card working- F5d7000, with a broadcom chipset. I have found ndiswrapper to use it. It isnt excactly a masked package but I am attempting it.

I dont have the results right now because i am at school and I will finish trying tonight and give an update as to whether it works. I hope so.

If anyone has tried this with the amd64 could you let me know if it works?

I have tried the blackdown and IBM jvms and neither work. I am currently downloading the blackdown 64 bit jvm to see if I have any joy with that.

corefonts
sharedfonts
freefonts
netbeans works with the 64bit jdk

IBM JDK didn't work

Blackdown 64bits sdk did work (needs downloading and installing) with the following command
_POSIX2_VERSION=199209 ./j2sdk-1.4.2-rc1-linux-amd64.bin

@Q

Did you try modifying the 32bit ebuild for the blackdown 64 jdk?

@varikin

Is your wlan not supported natively?

@exactt

I had to use Use=-quicktime to get mjpeg, transcode to compile. Did you??

I mean dev-java/blackdown-jdk-1.4.2_rc1 emerges the 64bit version with no problems .....

Although I can't get any apps to work ...!

no my wlan card is not supported natively unfortuatately, and the ndiswrapper uses assembly code so now i have to figure out how to compile 32-bit apps

i have looked at the tech notes and am reemerging gcc with the multilib use flag. but after that, i have to use the -m32 CFlag, correct? where does that go? because the tech notes suggests not putting that in /etc/make.conf, can i pass -m32 as an option when i call make install? like make -m32 install

am i on the right track or am i completely wrong?
thanks
varikin

i need my cat5 cable for another computer, so i need wireless driver, for which i need windows .inf driver, so i need my flash drive to work to move files, so i need to recompile kernel with correct options to support flash drive...the list goes on! one snag after another.
but only one at a time

As you have, I've read the tech notes and I'm not entirely clear what has to be done.

If you read the original tech notes it states the gcc supplied with gentoo amd64 is 64bit only and won't produce 32bit code.

That must have changed, as it appears to have been removed from the latest tech notes.

I'm trying my best to run a pure 64bit system, as its seems to be unclear how they are managed or coexist together.

To me not using portage to install 32bit apps, really defeats the object of using gentoo in the first place.

Suse and Mandrake install the 32&64 apps together, but that must be easier as they are already pre compiled. The 32bit apps would then use the emulation libs to run.

Its not much help but perhaps try emailing the gentoo dev on the technotes, or try #gentoo-amd64.

Other than that, make regular backups and just give it a try :wink:

I've compiled kde 3.2.0rc1 (without any problem unlike 3.1.5 with its broken kdemultimedia). It runs fine except I have this strange error message

"sound server error, cpu overload, abording"

any idea?

hello, all.

I think i've gotten gkrellm and gnome-alsamixer to work... on my pure 64bits system. but could someone go through the changes I need to make to an ebuild file for 64 bits mode. .. I don't want to post what I did here cause I'm afraid i'll look ridiculous.

btw sound on amd8111 comes though the headphones mixer control, strange.

How ?? I tried but i keep getting this error when i compile one of the dependencies:

./libtool --mode=compile gcc -O2 -pipe -I. -c ./jcapimin.c
make: ./libtool: Command not found
make: *** [jcapimin.lo] Error 127

!!! ERROR: media-libs/jpeg-mmx-1.1.2-r1 failed.
!!! Function src_compile, Line 34, Exitcode 2
!!! make failed

Also I noticed that most of the 'masked' applications that i have installed show up, if i do an esearch, as not installed... but they there!

gnome 2.5.2 compiled fine. The applications are pretty unstable but I don't think that a 64 bit thing :roll:

Acrobat compiles/install (?) but doesn't run
Confirm that blackdown installs clean
