ck-sources: your opinions?

  • Quote

Post by marax_faraii » Sat Aug 26, 2017 12:54 pm

I've been running gentoo-sources for as long as I've been using Gentoo but recently I decided to give ck-sources a shot and so far I like it. The system feels a tad "snappier" under heavier load.

To be honest, I gotta say I don't carry the amount of knowledge to dig that deep into what really makes a difference between the two in terms of overall performance given the ck patches which is why I'm reaching out here for more knowledgeable opinions.

So my questions is, what are your opinions is terms of pros and cons?

Thanks

I'm a user of pf Sources since a couple of years. pf-Sources aren't anything more than CK sources with more patches.

To be honest, at the beginning it seemed to be a little faster than Gentoo sources. Time has passed, and today it's just my computer and I almost forget that I'm not using gentoo-sources.

Now, there is a clear downside: One of the coolest perks of using pf-sources is the BFQ scheduler. It goes against systemd (not that I like it anyway) and the cgroup requirements from docker, which is a killer for me.
If it moves, it needs an ebuild.

Adopt an unanswered post.

BFQ is in linux kernel since 4.12.
Persinally, manually apply zen-patches to gentoo-sources.
