I'm installing Gentoo on a a 2008 Macbook.
While the correct term is not "installing" but "crafting", I get most of the system aspects covered(ish). There's an issue though that I seem unable to fix or workaround: in gpm I can't get a right click or an emulation working, so I'm left without the copy/paste feature.
According to the driver page:
Does anyone know if there is a quirk inside gpm to address this issue? In order to use the touchpad in the basic mode, compile the driver and load the module. A new input device will be detected and you will be able to read the mouse data from /dev/input/mice (using gpm, or X11).
In X11, you can configure the touchpad to use the synaptics driver, which will give additional functionalities, like acceleration, scrolling, 2 finger tap for middle button mouse emulation, 3 finger tap for right button mouse emulation, etc.
Thanks in advance.
