Unable to get right click working on apple trackpad in gpm

Kernel not recognizing your hardware? Problems with power management or PCMCIA? What hardware is compatible with Gentoo? See here. (Only for kernels supported by Gentoo.)

Unable to get right click working on apple trackpad in gpm

Hey guys,

I'm installing Gentoo on a a 2008 Macbook.

While the correct term is not "installing" but "crafting", I get most of the system aspects covered(ish). There's an issue though that I seem unable to fix or workaround: in gpm I can't get a right click or an emulation working, so I'm left without the copy/paste feature.

According to the driver page:
In order to use the touchpad in the basic mode, compile the driver and load the module. A new input device will be detected and you will be able to read the mouse data from /dev/input/mice (using gpm, or X11).
In X11, you can configure the touchpad to use the synaptics driver, which will give additional functionalities, like acceleration, scrolling, 2 finger tap for middle button mouse emulation, 3 finger tap for right button mouse emulation, etc.
Does anyone know if there is a quirk inside gpm to address this issue?

Thanks in advance.
If it moves, it needs an ebuild.

It's funny, when you want to right-click on a mac, I think you need to use the mouse on the right :D

Sorry I could not resist.

It's not clear to me whether you are using X. I don't use gpm but I thought it was for the console, not X11. If you are using X, have you tried the xev utility to see if the right button causes events? The package is x11-apps/xev. Sorry I can't offer much help for gpm.

HTH

[edit, I'm thinking maybe 2 quick finger taps should cause the right-button, no?]

Thanks for your answer.

...........

I guess I deserved that :P

Yes, I'm having this issue in a plain tty. As gpm is a mouse server for the console, I assumed it would have some kind of workaround specifically intended for apple mice.

In X it works like a charm (mostly).
