[SOLVED] emerge --sync, arm64 > amd64. Bad idea??

Post here for other supported architectures, or if you are interested in porting Gentoo to a currently unsupported architecture.

[SOLVED] emerge --sync, arm64 > amd64. Bad idea??

Greets,

I have been fiddling with gentoo on a couple arm64 SBCs and thought it is past time to set up my amd64 workstation as sync server. But now I wonder if its ok to mix arch'es. Is emerge --sync arch neutral??

Code: Select all

# emerge --info

shrike,

emerge --sync fetches the ebuilds from the Gentoo repository.
Each ebuild contains a line like

Code: Select all

KEYWORDS="alpha amd64 arm ~arm64 hppa ia64 ~m68k ~mips ppc ppc64 s390 ~sh sparc x86 ~sparc-fbsd ~x86-fbsd"
which tells portage which arch it is keyworded for and if it is stable or not.

When you emerge something, portage uses your ACCEPT_KEYWORDS from make.conf to know which packages it can consider.
So from that example, distcc-3.2_rc1-r4 is stable on amd64 and testing on arm64
Regards,

NeddySeagoon
