HELP - upgrading from Lenovo W500 to W530 - SOLVED

I have been running gentoo on a Lenovo w500 laptop for several years. I ran fully encrypted hard drive, woired ethernet, wifi, bluetooth. I copied the disk to my new w530 laptop and booted, and it came right up! :D

However, I needed to replace the ethernet driver to get the network working with wired ethernet (no surprise). I needed to make some adjustments to my usb setup to get my cellular broadband internet connection working, as the actual device was different from the w500. No problem, got that working too.

I needed to upgrade to the latest kernel to get the led display backlight and lighted keyboard working, but now that works too.

I haven't really tackled the wifi yet, as the cellular works good enough for now.

But I would really like to get the bluetooth mouse working! As I mentioned above, I copied all the files form the w500 to the w530, then changed the ip address, machine name, etc. All the ID information for the microsoft bluetooth mouse sould be there form the w500, but the bluetooth hardware is diferent.

Here is the hardware:

Code: Select all

onesimus ~ # lsusb
Bus 001 Device 005: ID 04f2:b2ea Chicony Electronics Co., Ltd Integrated Camera [ThinkPad]
Bus 001 Device 004: ID 0a5c:21e6 Broadcom Corp. BCM20702 Bluetooth 4.0 [ThinkPad]
Bus 001 Device 003: ID 147e:2020 Upek TouchChip Fingerprint Coprocessor (WBF advanced mode)
Bus 001 Device 006: ID 1199:0120 Sierra Wireless, Inc. AC595U
Bus 002 Device 002: ID 8087:0024 Intel Corp. Integrated Rate Matching Hub
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 8087:0024 Intel Corp. Integrated Rate Matching Hub
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
onesimus ~ #
I have done some googling, and it appears that the Broadcom Corp. BCM20702 Bluetooth 4.0 hardware might need a firmeware upload. Also, I saw somewhere that some USB table somwhere in the code needed patching back in 2013 or so to include the Device 004: ID 0a5c:21e6 information.

It has been so long since I had to pair my mouse to my w500 that I have actually forgotten how I did it. maybe I just need to pair the mouse to the new hardware's mac address or something.

Does anybody have any experience with the bluetooth under gentoo on a w530?

Does anybody have any suggestions or guidance for me to get this mouse working?

Success! mouse is working via bluetooth. I was using old out of date procedure to set it up. Used gentoo wiki bluetooth page and it worked right away.

Could you possibly post your .config? I need to debug a boot issue on a new install and I need a known working kernel to rule it out.
No sig yet, sig ebuild up soon :-)

Are you on a w500, a w530, or something else? I can post my config, but its pretty long, so I will send you aPM with alink to it so you can download it, but I need to know what machine you are using, and what kernel. Also, what is the "boot issue" you are encountering?
