ipod touch 4th gen mounting

  • Quote

Post by DZoom » Fri Aug 01, 2014 3:55 pm

Hi,

i'm able to mount my 4th gen ipod touch, but i can't transfer music to it.
when starting thunar, the device gets listed and can be mounted. in thunar, it then appears in the network section.
so in gtkpod i can't choose that location, as it states 'is not a local folder'.
clementine is not able to copy music to my ipod either, two different problems occur with it:
1. it seems to be unable to read out the correct size of my device (stating the ipod is either completely filled or has a negative overall size).
2. it just reports an error, that something went wrong. but not what that 'something' might be.

is there any way, so that a mount point for the device can be specified, so that i can retry it in gtkpod?
or how can i transfer my music to my ipod?

well I use ifuse to mount the ipod toa custom(local) location
I get segmentation faults when using gtkpod and clementine though

try out ifuse, maybe you'll get things running

a simple umount should suffice

i tried ifuse, mounting and specifying that location worked in gtkpod -- however i am not able to add music to the ipod, due to checksum errors.

can anyone else give me a hint, where to start debugging/crawling logs? i can't figure out what the problem is and tutorials never describe such pitfalls

with `fusermount -u`, as described at http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-99 ... ifuse.html (as in, don't try to use plain umount)

additionally, you should look into moving away from ifuse, because eg. gnome-base/gvfs has flags like USE="mtp gphoto2 ios" that allows `gvfs-mount` to be used, specially if you use file managers
based on gvfs like thunar or nautilus

EDIT: in fact, I think this thread is a duplicate of the another thread... now i'm seeing you mentioned Thunar in post 1

Yes, indeed. See [topic=994794]iPhone with ifuse locks up thunar[Solved][/topic]. Moved from Multimedia to Duplicate Threads.
