It may be possible to solve this problem by using package.mask to
prevent one of those packages from being selected. However, it is also
possible that conflicting dependencies exist such that they are
impossible to satisfy simultaneously. If such a conflict exists in
the dependencies of two different packages, then those packages can
not be installed simultaneously. You may want to try a larger value of
the --backtrack option, such as --backtrack=30, in order to see if
that will solve this conflict automatically.

For more information, see MASKED PACKAGES section in the emerge man
page or refer to the Gentoo Handbook.

For more information about Blocked Packages, please refer to the following
section of the Gentoo Linux x86 Handbook (architecture is irrelevant):

http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/handbook-x86.xml?full=1#blocked

The following mask changes are necessary to proceed:
(see "package.unmask" in the portage(5) man page for more details)
# required by media-video/kdenlive-0.9.6
# required by @selected
# required by @world (argument)
# /etc/portage/package.mask/gentoo.pmask:
# only libav-0.8.6 can record my desktop with sound
=virtual/ffmpeg-9

NOTE: The --autounmask-keep-masks option will prevent emerge
from creating package.unmask or ** keyword changes.
I am running ~amd64.

I think that /var/lib/layman/unity-gentoo/unity-portage.pmask should be updated to solve most of the problems, such as the Xorg stuff.

Uninstalling the conflicting x11-drivers/* helped.

Any idea why Portage didn't resolve that automatically, by simply resinstalling them?

Not sure. Did you try the '--backtrack' option ?
Gettext and boost version limits have been resolved by upstream and fixed in overlay.

Thanks! :)

Hi

I have problem when updating:

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

hi

after a long time of no updates (due to lots of blockers and no time) i finally tried a deep world update. So I am on my way towards trusty (coming from saucy).

>400 packages to compile. Had lots of issues on the way but was able to resolve most of them. For the last ~100 packages I am currently stuck at compilatoin of "dev-qt/qt3d-5.0_p0_p05":

Any hints? Can s/o confirm success of compilation? Thanks a lot in advance!

EDIT:
Just in case s/o is having the the same problem(s) here is what it solved for me.
After doing the qt5 downgrade to the unity-overlay qt versoins qt3d and qtgui that failed to compile before did work out. (see very first post of this thread)

Only the upgrade from unity-base/signon-ui-0.15_p0_p01-r4 to unity-base/signon-ui-0.16_p0_p01-r2 keeps on failing

EDIT2: After a re-emerge of x11-libs/libaccounts-qt-1.11_p0_p01-r1 this also worked out. :)

Hi,

I'm having this error when I try to unlock in Time and Date settings panel:

Code: Select all

(unity-control-center:11620): Gtk-WARNING **: Error acquiring permission: Failed to acquire permission for action-id com.canonical.controlcenter.datetime.configure
The same issue appears in User Account Settings:

Code: Select all

(unity-control-center:11620): Gtk-WARNING **: Error acquiring permission: Failed to acquire permission for action-id com.canonical.controlcenter.user-accounts.administration

In dconf I have no schemas named controlcenter under com.cannonical.

Anyone having this ?

Sorry for my bad english

Hi kranaos,

These error lines are referring to polkit policies.
Ensure 'polkitd' and 'polkit-gnome-authentication-agent-1' processes are running.

When you click on 'Unlock' it should prompt for the root password to unlock admin privileges and be able to change that setting.

hi shiznix,

yes, polkitd and 'polkit-gnome-authentication-agent-1' processes are running.

When I click on 'Unlock, the root prompt disappear immediately after 1 second .The same issue occurs when I try to mount a drive in nautilus.

I wasn't able to initially reproduce this, but some Googling mentioned others with the same problem when /usr/lib/polkit-1/polkit-agent-helper-1 has not been setuid.
Was then able to reproduce by setting 'chmod -s /usr/lib/polkit-1/polkit-agent-helper-1', so you may just need to do 'chmod +s /usr/lib/polkit-1/polkit-agent-helper-1' as root.

If this does fix the problem, then it becomes a mystery how this would have been unset as this is set at installation of sys-auth/polkit.
You might also wish to re-emerge sys-auth/polkit as a catchall.

Hope that helps

Setting the SUID fix the problem.

I've made some chown -R root:root to fix incorrect rights due to a backup restore just before switching to Unity :)

Thanks for your Help shiznix and your great work on Unity overlay

Permission denied? Which user? root I assume...? The folder in question looks good (I temporarily did even set 777 to no avail):

drwxrwxrwx 2 root root 20K 16. Jun 11:02 /usr/share/glib-2.0/schemas/
root@zenbook [~]#
I can touch and delete files inside this directory as root. Does some other user need access? If yes, which/why?

Thanks for any pointers!

Cheers,

Hi noclear2000,

You've probably already fixed this by now with a sync as was fixed a couple of weeks ago in https://github.com/shiznix/unity-gentoo ... 527dc8b9e9
But for reference, the failure is '/usr/bin/update-gconf-defaults: No such file or directory'

The glib schemas 'Permission denied' is normal and non-fatal.

Hello there !

I am struggling to emerge unity from the overlay. Until here i always used minimalistic WM like awesome window manager, i want to give my old laptop to a old person who's used to unity.
What I did so far is to switch to the correct profile (i guess)

Code: Select all

 eselect profile list
Available profile symlink targets:
  [1] default/linux/amd64/13.0
  [2] default/linux/amd64/13.0/selinux
  [3] default/linux/amd64/13.0/desktop
  [4] default/linux/amd64/13.0/desktop/gnome
  [5] default/linux/amd64/13.0/desktop/gnome/systemd
  [6] default/linux/amd64/13.0/desktop/kde
  [7] default/linux/amd64/13.0/desktop/kde/systemd
  [8] default/linux/amd64/13.0/developer
  [9] default/linux/amd64/13.0/no-multilib
  [10] default/linux/amd64/13.0/x32
  [11] hardened/linux/amd64
  [12] hardened/linux/amd64/selinux
  [13] hardened/linux/amd64/no-multilib
  [14] hardened/linux/amd64/no-multilib/selinux
  [15] hardened/linux/amd64/x32
  [16] hardened/linux/uclibc/amd64
  [17] hardened/linux/musl/amd64
  [18] unity-gentoo:saucy/amd64 *
  [19] unity-gentoo:trusty/amd64
  [20] unity-gentoo:utopic/amd64
and

Code: Select all

emerge unity-build-env:0/saucy
Now when trying to

Code: Select all

 emerge unity-meta
i got a huge list of block that can be seen here : http://pastebin.com/zc4eT1WQ

Some packages are masked by the overlay itself (like gnome-3.10) so I don’t know if i have to unmask those manually ...

Any advices to how to tackle that list ??

Fixed thx to shiznix on irc

Here are the steps if someone is in the same case
re-sync the overlay as Saucy has just been dropped and Trusty stabilised

Code: Select all

layman -S
then select the 'trusty' unity-gentoo profile :

Code: Select all

 eselect profile list
Available profile symlink targets:
  [1] default/linux/amd64/13.0
  [2] default/linux/amd64/13.0/selinux
  [3] default/linux/amd64/13.0/desktop
  [4] default/linux/amd64/13.0/desktop/gnome
  [5] default/linux/amd64/13.0/desktop/gnome/systemd
  [6] default/linux/amd64/13.0/desktop/kde
  [7] default/linux/amd64/13.0/desktop/kde/systemd
  [8] default/linux/amd64/13.0/developer
  [9] default/linux/amd64/13.0/no-multilib
  [10] default/linux/amd64/13.0/x32
  [11] hardened/linux/amd64
  [12] hardened/linux/amd64/selinux
  [13] hardened/linux/amd64/no-multilib
  [14] hardened/linux/amd64/no-multilib/selinux
  [15] hardened/linux/amd64/x32
  [16] hardened/linux/uclibc/amd64
  [17] hardened/linux/musl/amd64
  [18] unity-gentoo:trusty/amd64 *
  [19] unity-gentoo:utopic/amd64
then

Code: Select all

emerge -aqv unity-build-env
to setup the correct package masking

once that's done :

Code: Select all

emerge -uDNvta unity-meta
Currently building on my 5 years old macbook :

Code: Select all

Emerging (23 of 535) dev-libs/jsoncpp-0.5.0-r1

Is there a new ebuild available that has a corrected branch location? (I just did a layman sync)

thanks a lot!

EDIT:

Code: Select all

rm -rf /usr/portage/distfiles/bzr-src/unity-settings-daemon
and the same for unity-controlcenter did the trick.

While trying to install properties-cpp from the xenial branch, I am receiving the error "No rule to make target 'gmock/libs/gtest/libgtest.a', needed by 'tests/signals_test'. Stop." Any help or advice is greatly appreciated.

it would be nice if net-mail/gnubiff was added to that overlay. unless you use ./configure --disable-gnome the compilation requires libpanel-applet provided by gnome-panel which is only available in this overlay.

what I did test is adding the overlay, selecting some profile, building unity-base/unity-build-env and then gnome-panel. afterwards the version 2.2.17 from sourceforge did compile with gnome enabled, and it did run in plasma -- although I didn't notice much difference since kde isn't using gnome stuff. so at least it works. since nothing changed I'll undo the profile and revert @world. but maybe unity-users would get something out of it -- and be it just the fact that gnubiff is being maintained again, by the ubuntu-devs...

just for the record: gnubiff-2.2.15::gentoo crashes when changing mailbox-configuration, so it's useful only for the default file-based mailbox. I have a user-patch to fix it, and new versions have that bug fixed too. seems some string-related bug is fixed, probably the one that caused some headers to be unreadable. the repository also mentioned some race-condition being fixed -- those are rare bugs on multi-core systems. and as mentioned another change is the use of libpanel-applet-4 instead of the old libpanelapplet-2. seems the maintainer only fixes easy-to-fix stuff, and applies provided patches...

Hi finnwiley. Can you provide a pastebin of the complete build.log for dev-libs/properties-cpp?
Also feel free to open an issue on the overlay's github page.

Thanks! :)

piotr5 wrote:it would be nice if net-mail/gnubiff was added to that overlay. unless you use ./configure --disable-gnome the compilation requires libpanel-applet provided by gnome-panel which is only available in this overlay.

what I did test is adding the overlay, selecting some profile, building unity-base/unity-build-env and then gnome-panel. afterwards the version 2.2.17 from sourceforge did compile with gnome enabled, and it did run in plasma -- although I didn't notice much difference since kde isn't using gnome stuff. so at least it works. since nothing changed I'll undo the profile and revert @world. but maybe unity-users would get something out of it -- and be it just the fact that gnubiff is being maintained again, by the ubuntu-devs...

just for the record: gnubiff-2.2.15::gentoo crashes when changing mailbox-configuration, so it's useful only for the default file-based mailbox.
Thanks for your interest but we don't have any plans to start maintaining net-mail/gnubiff's Gnome support as it doesn't really fit with the unity-gentoo overlay's overall goal of providing just a Unity desktop.
We do provide some small extras packages in unity-extra/... but these again are specific to Unity desktop.

An alternative may be to maintain it yourself either in your local repo or start your own public overlay.

Cheers! :)

Hello,

Been trying to install this overlay for a couple of days and keep getting this error when it tries to install shotwell:

Code: Select all

Everything else has gone remarkably smoothly. This is a fresh installation. Systemd is working.

When I run emerge -av media-gfx/shotwell, I get:

Code: Select all

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies... done!

Total: 1 package (1 new), Size of downloads: 2 KiB

Would you like to merge these packages? [Yes/No]
I've synced the portage tree and updated Layman. I'm at a loss what to do!

The file shotwell.1 no longer exist on fedora url. Try to download this file manually from http://distfiles.gentoo.org/distfiles/shotwell.1 and move it on /usr/portage/distfiles/
