Is it possible to configure console keymap to something more international, do i need a special package to be installed?

for example us map provides some latin characters through 'compose' (á, é ...) but i cant get other characters like: ě, č, ř, ň ...
i miss a statement that tells me this is not possible, or a hint where to look further

i once came accross uk-utf map which did had most of the chars in it... but is there a way how to get this from portage?

The comments tell what you need to know
Edit it to your taste and do

I dont see anything in there that would help me resolve this. I knew about the file before.There is no mentioning of international characters, nor is it in /usr/share/keymaps (not to my knowledge). All that i can do with /etc/conf.d/keymaps is select one specific keymap, but I want one that would look like us/uk except it would allow me to type other characters like č ř ž ť ď ň ... which i was not able to achieve with us/uk.

Use a keymap file from /usr/share/keymaps/i386/qwerty as the basis for jd823592.map.gz if you cannot find a file to your taste.

so the answer is no, there is no package i can install to get a keymap that would allow me to type all possible "latin" european characters in any standard way, nothing i could easily install on different boxes and keeping it tracked by portage?

I'm in the UK and use keymap="dvorak-uk"
I have never tried to type accented characters as I really only know one language.

That means I don't know.

As for distributing such a feature using portage, you would need to write an ebuild and use your overlay.

Have you seen the arch thread on the topic?

If you want a US like keymap with french canadian accents, you can use the cf keymap. For accents that the cf keymap do not include, you can create a personnal keymap file specifying things to add, modify and suppress from the cf keymap and than load it after the cf keymap with the loadkeys command.

I have a perso-gentoo.map that I load from /etc/local.d/local.start at boot time. It include Portage commands mapped to keys that are very usefull when you want to type less.
