mmmm yeah git! i dont like funtoos site structure at all, but alas git speaks to me. revision control vs sync against server x out in space = win....

The "cvs-to-git" portage tree migration project is underway. For a few years now. I hope they'll eventually manage to get it done, but alas, it's a huge thing.

When I was begining with Gentoo I had no luck at all with mixing Gentoo+stable and some unstable frontends I was interested in: I didn't get all the dependencies when I was a newbie.
Therefore I tried Funtoo. At that time it was kind of a guided Gentoo~unstable:
All of the toolchain kept stable mixed with fancy new stuff: desktop, browser etc...
... Just what a newbie wants to have, just fun.

drobbins the creator of gentoo is at the helm of funtoo, where the council and/or foundation??? are at the helm of gentoo... funtoo is basically his playground to do what ever the heck he wants... where this is more community driven & commanding stability/reliability. they do not have systemd, though they have/will have a separate build called FOAM supporting systemd. drobbins is 39... i was asking him stuff tonight.

http://linuxcrazy.com/podcasts/LC-42-drobbins.ogg

listen to this podcast of linux crazy interviewing him.

The GIT integration with Portage is one major difference (and it's freaking awesome), and the other major difference is how the networking is handled. Other than that, they tend to be more aggressive in masking the toolchain (and other system critical packages)--which is understandable.

As a user of both, I really, really hope that Gentoo gets the GIT integration into portage soon! :D

i just installed funtoo last night on my desktop. git is amazingly fast at syncing. maxing out my connection. some gentoo packages are a bit more stable than my "current" tree. so far, i feel like i was living in the stone age using gentoo. the funtoo git tree is hosted on github.

I expect your observation to be invalid for, at least, the sys-kernel/ck-sources package...
