[Solved]Seriously borked emerge

Problems with emerge or ebuilds? Have a basic programming question about C, PHP, Perl, BASH or something else?

After upgrading a few packages (bzip2, and bash are highly suspect...) I'm now getting this:

Code: Select all

/etc/portage # emerge -1 bash
Calculating dependencies... done!

>>> Verifying ebuild manifests

>>> Emerging (1 of 1) app-shells/bash-4.2_p45-r1
/usr/lib64/portage/bin/ebuild.sh: line 719:  5282 Segmentation fault      ( if [[ -n ${PORTAGE_PIPE_FD} ]]; then
    eval "exec ${PORTAGE_PIPE_FD}>&-"; unset PORTAGE_PIPE_FD;
fi; __ebuild_main ${EBUILD_SH_ARGS}; exit 0 )
 * The ebuild phase 'die_hooks' has been aborted since PORTAGE_BUILDDIR

I highly suspect that I have a corrupted bash install. What would the next step be here?

id get out the linux from scratch online manual.....
id get out the unetbootin ubuntu live media rescue / repair key....

id mash up bash in chroot from scratch if i had important stuff on the pc....

if not id probably wipe / move in from scratch.

thats me... you....

get stage3, unwrap it to a garbage temporary dir.... cherry pick moving new binaries in =D then revdep rebuild once it starts working.

Ok, snagged bash and bzip2 binaries out of a stage3. That got emerge working again, did a lot of testing and narrowed it down to gcc. gcc seems to have been outputting badness. Switching to an old gcc resolved it.
