Updating shared mime info database takes a long time

Suddenly (two days ago) this (un)install procedure takes several seconds (20+) and I have no idea why...just hdd led is lightning. Is there anything I can do?

Here's the Gentoo bug (export ac_cv_func_fdatasync=no has been added), and upstream bug.

I saw the bug report and I tried x11-misc/shared-mime-info-1.1 and -1.2-r1 - with both, I still get a horrendously long
