hotplug error on startup: Module already in kernel

Hi,

I've just switched from devfs to udev and emerged hotplug-20030805-r3. I added it to the boot runlevel. on startup I get this message:

Code: Select all

modprobe: FATAL: Module uhci_hcd already in kernel
modprobe: FATAL: Module ehci_hcd already in kernel
the script itself return an ok. but still it is annonying to have this error message everytime I boot. the strange thing is, that if I remove hotplug from the boot runlevel and start it afterwards from the console I don't get an error message. Any one who knows what could be wrong?

Have you tried compiling those two as modules. Seems like the logical thing to do, but I may be missing something here.

Just did a diff on the -r2 and -r3 ebuild. -r3 applies a patch which has to do something with usbmodules. Dont know what it is for exactly and i'm going back to -r2 see if this solves the problem.
EASY TO INSTALL = Difficult to install, but instruction manual has pictures.

I just installed udev and everything seems to function okay, but not as great as devfs was though. However, I also get that Fatal usb module already loaded message run across my screen about 20 times at bootup. I have the same symptons as you, it only does it when my hotplug is set at boot and not when its just at default. Did you happen to figure out what was wrong with it?

I have the same "problem" ..

I get 10s of "Module already in kernel" on boot.

I haven't found any solution in the forums. Any clue?

PS.: *bump!*

you could place the modules in your /etc/hotplug/blacklist file. That should stop hotplug from loading them. I am not sure if they are needed or not, or if something else will load them for you.
