Funny network interface names ?

Hi just wiped my laptop and reinstalled gentoo the usual way
I setup wirless when i started form the minimal cd and installed perfect fine

Using wlan0 and eth0

Now after installing everything my wireless device is coming up as wlp3s0 and my ethernet enp2s0

enp2s0 is working fine but my wireless is not.

Im getting some weird errors from wpa_supplicant
all very similar to the below

Any ideas what is causing this ?? and where have my normal network names gone ?

Yuck. Don't do that. Why did you do that? A reinstall from scratch is certainly not the usual way.

Now that I've got that rant out of the way, see the handy dandy "eselect news" item, entitled "Upgrading udev to version >=200" and the longish forum thread, [topic=955646]predictable network interface names[/topic]. As an aside, reading that thread, you'll see that you're not alone in being surprised by this.
