python-updater and bad package atom... (SOLVED)

Problems with emerge or ebuilds? Have a basic programming question about C, PHP, Perl, BASH or something else?

python-updater and bad package atom... (SOLVED)

When running python-updater, the following happens:

ivan ~ # python-updater
* Starting Python Updater...
* Main active version of Python: 2.7
* Active version of Python 2: 2.7
* Active version of Python 3: 3.2
* Globally supported Python ABIs in installed repositories:
* gentoo: 2.4 2.5 2.6 2.7 3.1 3.2 2.5-jython 2.7-pypy-1.7 2.7-pypy-1.8 2.7-pypy-1.9
* Adding to list: dev-lang/-MERGING-python:2.6
* emerge -Dv1 --keep-going dev-lang/-MERGING-python:2.6
!!! 'dev-lang/-MERGING-python:2.6' is not a valid package atom.
!!! Please check ebuild(5) for full details.

First time I've run across something like this, and I've been using Gentoo for over 10 years. Anyone have an idea where this is stored so I can get rid of it?

Thanks for the help!

That is from a failed install during the final copy phase to the live file system. Normally it renames it, removing the -MERGING- from the name. But something caused it to not complete.

You can delete that directory. It is located in "/var/db/pkg/dev-lang/". Then re-emerge that one pkg with collision-protect off. Do not do a world update. You will need it off because it will most likely try to overwrite files on the new install that portage no longer knows which pkg they belong to. Also since python2.6 is bad, make sure you have python2.7 eselected (or python3.x) whichever versions you have other than 2.6).

Code: Select all

FEATURES="-collision-protect" emerge -v python:2.6"
Then continue with python updater and a revdep-rebuild just in case.

Thank you very much! That worked. However I just want to delete references to 2.6, as nothing uses it.

Well, in that case to clean out 2.6, you still needed to emerge it, then you can unmerge it. Otherwise you would have had to hunt down all the files it installs manually to remove them.
