[Solved] tethering after chrooting into build environment

Having problems with the Gentoo Handbook? If you're still working your way through it, or just need some info before you start your install, this is the place. All other questions go elsewhere.

[Solved] tethering after chrooting into build environment

Hi, I am trying to install gentoo on my P4 decktop pc. For coneecting to internet from the live CD, I am using tethering facility of my android phone as follows:

Code: Select all

ifconfig usb0 up && dhcpcd usb0
Everything was fine until I chrooted into the build envionment and tried

Code: Select all

emerge --sync
At which time I got error - something like getaddrinfo failed and like that. So I tried pinging, that's when I discovered that the internet was not working. From the same chroot environment, I tried

Code: Select all

ifconfig usb0
which successfully showed the setting for that interface, including IP address and rest of the information.

Since I do not have dhcpcd installed yet on the build environment, how can I use the tethered connection?

(Please pardon for mistakes, if any as I am using 'links' from the live CD)

This is a fairly common problem - you forgot to copy /etc/resolv.conf to the chroot environment.

See the "Copy DNS Info" section of http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/h ... t=1&chap=6 :)
