emerge qt-gui fail?

Problems with emerge or ebuilds? Have a basic programming question about C, PHP, Perl, BASH or something else?

Could someone explain what this is asking me to do? I have tried somethings and i know its somthing simple?

I suggest you update portage to the latest 2.1 or latest 2.2 depending on what you use. It might give you a better error than.

It looks like you have some use flag conflict, but it's hard to tell without the command you ran and the complete output. If I had to guess I'd say qt-gui needs the qt3support and dbus use flag enabled.

i have qt3support and dbus in my use flags. how do i update portage? sry new at this.

emerge portage is just 2.1? emerge --sync now?
so i have the latest 2.1 version?

eselect news read new
will give you some guidance on avoiding breakages. Portage is also asking you to make keyword changes to /etc/portage/package.keyword. Portage can handle this for you if you append --autounmask-write to your update command

emerge qt-gui --autounmask-write 
you will then have to run etc-update (or your preferred config update command) once you've approved the changes you can then run emerge qt-gui

The previous replies are orthogonal to your problem.
It's pretty simple actually - you can't simply 'emerge -1 qt-gui', you need to emerge all the splits in one go.
