LiveCD problem on my HP Pavilion dm1 (Radeon HD 6310M)

hi

im trying to get Gentoo running on my new HP Pavilion dm1 (it has a Radeon HD 6310M graphics card).

When i try to boot Gentoo from the boot menu (doesn't matter what option i pick) it tells me:

pci_root address space collision: host bridge window
conflicts with Video ROM

Then when the booting continues, the the screen gets all distorted.

Any way to fix this?

Thanks in advance.

Hi EnemyNL,

1. Have you tried updating the BIOS on your laptop to the latest version?
2. Do you have an option in the BIOS of your laptop related to PCI mapping?
3. Try appending the custom option: pci=nocrs or acpi=copy_dsdt to your boot options

I have updated my bios to the latest version.

i do not have a option in the bios to do PCI mapping

using the custom options made the error message about the Video ROM go away, however the screen still gets distorted.

Try appending another line: vga=xxx (replace xxx with the correct numbers)
See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VESA_BIOS_Extensions for a wide variety of resolutions and their corresponding numbers. If your native resolution isn't listed there, then try using a generic resolution like 800x600 or 1024x768 during installation. Once Gentoo Linux is installed it will be a lot easier to track down the error.

well using vga=xxx works, the resolution changes (i can see from the two penguins) however, after some loading, the screen changes resolution again and it becomes distorted again.

cant i just wait till the boot is done and then enter a command do force the screen mode to change?

Thanks

Try pressing the F keys to see what options are available on your LiveDVD. There might be an option for it, I'm not quite sure though, because this can differ. What LiveCD / LiveDVD are you using? Have you tried booting from another LiveCD or LiveDVD?

No, there is no easy way to do so unfortunately. The only way to do so, would be by using your own Gentoo installation with the catalyst tools. But why not install Gentoo from the minimal install CD? Since that should work fine too :-)
