Just can't get this to work, here's what I've found:

Code: Select all

desk client1 # ./foldingathome -verbosity 9

Note: Please read the license agreement (foldingathome -license). Further
use of this software requires that you have read and accepted this agreement.

Finch: that's happens sometimes and usually means the server is overloaded (popular project). The main thing is to allow the client to run for at least an hour before getting worried. I've had times when it took almost that long to get a new core so don't worry about it as it depends on how hard the server is being hammered.

You don't need a special kernel.

This would be good practice to learn how to search portage (emerge -s )

It runs the same in amd64 as x86.

Just be sure to enter the gentoo team number when you set it up :)

I was wondering, is there any chance someone can update the ebuild?

Thanks ;-)

Drewgrange:
For some reason I'm unable to get the blasted 5.0.2 stable client running with multilib support on my stable amd64 setup (Intel Nocona cpu) using the latest Gentoo-Sources with 32bit emulation built into the kernel. Any suggestions before I go for the beta SMP client?

FastTurtle: A couple of days I switched to the beta SMP client and my folding has gone up from about 1000 P.P.D. to about 2000 P.P.D. However, I have to start the client now manually (which is no big deal for me, since it gives me a nice progress report in a terminal). Just a couple of thing for you to consider.

i made a ebuild for 6.24beta a few months ago and posted it to the bug tracker thinking that was the best way to get it included in portage. http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=270458

feel free to test it out and let me know if I should submit it another way

Just added my machine to the GLUE team, hello everyone :)
Power consumption with F@H running at lowest CPU frequency (yay for the ondemand governor) is about 10W higher, so no problem on this side.

Hope your ebuild will be accepted soon, having it in there for three months is bad :(

After losing interest in my former online hangout, I've been spending some time here and figured I would move my clients over to the GLUE team. I'll bring my #1 rig online after it finishes the current WU, then in a couple of weeks I'll bring a couple more into the fray. (Need some time to update, still running those rigs on a year old or better install)

I'm joining the Gentoo team today, after doing a million for Team Firefox it seems like there wasn't much teamwork going on there...

Is the Gentoo folding team particularly active? Running folding@home does not seem like much of a big thing here.

Judging by this thread, I'd say no. Nonetheless, I joined a few weeks ago and have been shooting up through the ranks like a monkey clinging to a ruptured propane cylinder. 4 well-specced machines running full-time will do that...

It's been summer for the last 6 months in this hemisphere. F@h is more of a cold-weather thing.

Haha, doh! I just looked at my stats for the first time this year. I just let the clients run and update them periodically... so yeah, guess I'm in the "not very active in community" category.

Anyway the "doh!" was "WTF? I have *no* contributions since May?" My clients have been running. At least I been paying for extra electricity. Check, yeah, assigned to the GLUE team, passkey is okay. What's going on? Then I notice my user name is 'y'. Guess I answered 'y' in some client config and spread it around... instead of pressing enter to keep the old username. Oopsie. At least they got credited to the team. :D

I started my folding since it is turning cold again. Anyway, it never gets a unit to work on. It tries about 30 times but still nothing. Anyone else run into this lately? I need some HEAT here. 8O

This is sort of what I get:

Code: Select all

[14:15:03] Loaded queue successfully.
[14:15:03] - Preparing to get new work unit...
[14:15:03] Cleaning up work directory

[14:15:03] + Could not connect to Assignment Server 2
[14:15:03] + Couldn't get work instructions.
[14:15:03] - Attempt #1 to get work failed, and no other work to do.
Waiting before retry.

This just repeats until I stop the thing.

I use finstall to handle install and configure folding. I tried the one in portage but it just doesn't have some things that I need, at least not then anyway. I re-install before I try to start it each season since the executables do update from time to time. This time after the updates, I have tried a couple times a week for the last several weeks and it never gets anything. I have had it go as high as 30 tries before I stop it.

Maybe folding doesn't like me anymore. :? I just need the heat. I let my puter do most of the heating in my room. Right now, it's getting cold. I resorted to a emerge -e world for the moment.

I have:

Code: Select all

Latest version installed: 6.02-r1
If I try to install/update it, I get all versions are masked...
masked by missing keyword, has only ~amd64, no ~x86

The ones in ::gentoo are licence- and multilib-masked. The latter is an error; the binaries are static so userspace doesn't matter at all, and I used them fine without multilib. I remember reporting that as a bug months ago... It should work fine on x86-32 too.
