are you mixing stable and unstable branch for kde?
There are 10 types of people in the world: those who understand binary, and those who don't.

what does emerge -pvO $(qlist -IC x11-libs/qt) return

Agree, put your use flags in make.conf or package.use.

Also post your emerge --info.

Hi

I have the same problem as mentioned above - I ran the command

Code: Select all

emerge -pvO $(qlist -IC x11-libs/qt)
and I receive this:

Code: Select all

All ebuilds that could satisfy "x11-libs/qt-meta" have been masked.
!!! One of the following masked packages is required to complete your request:
- x11-libs/qt-meta-4.7 (masked by: ~x86 keyword)
- x11-libs/qt-meta-4.6 (masked by: ~x86 keyword)

For more information, see the MASKED PACKAGES section in the emerge
man page or refer to the Gentoo Handbook.
What shall I do to fix this?

Thankyou.

Can you post output of qlist -IC x11-libs/qt because qt-meta is not listed for me.

by the by, doing 'static' and/or 'static-libs' globally in make.conf is a bad idea.
should only be done on a per-package basis.

qlist -IC x11-libs/qt gives:

x11-libs/qt-assistant
x11-libs/qt-core
x11-libs/qt-dbus
x11-libs/qt-gui
x11-libs/qt-meta
x11-libs/qt-multimedia
x11-libs/qt-opengl
x11-libs/qt-qt3support
x11-libs/qt-script
x11-libs/qt-sql
x11-libs/qt-svg
x11-libs/qt-test
x11-libs/qt-webkit
x11-libs/qt-xmlpatterns
x11-libs/qtscriptgenerator

cach0rr0 i dont understand what you mean? Should I removed static-lib from make.conf?

Is qt-meta needed for you? Would it be ok to unmerge it?

Yes. He means that both of these should be set only on packages where you have a specific reason to do so. If you cannot explain why you need it, then you probably do not need it.

Just do

Code: Select all

emerge -C dev-libs/libxml2
and continue updating.
It should be installed by dependency.

Hi All:

I'm running on AMD64 with XFCE4 desktop but I keep the qt4 libraries for some odd apps I need form time to time.
EVERYTIME they are upgraded I have the same problem described in the first post.

I do this:
emerge -uDp system and get all the blockers the first post states. The only solution I have is this:
emerge -C qt-assistant
emerge -C qt-core
emerge -C qt-dbus
emerge -C qt-gui
emerge -C qt-opengl
emerge -C qt-qt3support
emerge -C qt-script
emerge -C qt-sql
emerge -C qt-svg
emerge -C qt-test
emerge -C qt-webkit

and then, emerge -uDp system

and the blockers are gone and the new qt-packages are ready to emerge. Note I only sow the stuff on my system, you may have more qt4 libraties that will require manual unmerging but you can look at the blocking meassages and figuere out what needs removing. It takes a while because qt4 is bloatware but that's life.

I'm currently updating now and its working fine. This happens EVERYTIME there are qt4 updates, its nothing new.

Cheers,
john

If you update as

Code: Select all

emerge -uDN --with-bdeps=y @world
it should do all necessary unmerges automatically.

unfortunately this broke several packages like avidemux. So I will try:

emerge -uDN --with-bdeps=y @world

Thanks

It's normal, do not worry - as I said all necessary packets will be added by dependencies.
Do not forget to run

Code: Select all

revdep-rebuild
after.

Same problem here.

It seems to have been solved doing this:

Code: Select all

emerge -avO1 $(qlist -IC x11-libs/qt)

I got this too, but you have to be patient and wait some time while qt sources are downloaded. They are more than 200 MB.

Ok, that's a different problem.

You just have to add the missing USE flag to the package, this way:
echo "sys-block/parted device-mapper >> /etc/portage/package.use"

By the way, since it seems that you are following my same steps (I did all of this yesterday), you should read the KDE4.6 upgrade guide.
