install + errors livedvd-x86-amd64-32ul-11.1.iso

Having problems with the Gentoo Handbook? If you're still working your way through it, or just need some info before you start your install, this is the place. All other questions go elsewhere.

install + errors livedvd-x86-amd64-32ul-11.1.iso

I am having a few issues with this version of Gentoo.

This is lovely and works well except from gnome that loads but has no menu's and does not function properly or the incomplete wifi drivers for zd1211rw and bcm43xx / b43.
If I can get this on the internet "wifi" then I can install the drivers again and fix the wifi issues myself.

I would also like to know how to set either or both KDE and Gnome to default theme's.

Another issue is how to install it as there is no indication of a install program or scripts and since last gentoo install a lot has changed.

I tried to copy the /mnt/static as this appears to be the default excluding /dev /proc and other non needed files and then chroot + grub and kernel build / isntall but this does not seem to work as it did in older gentoo livecd's.

Hope someone can point me in the right direction.

Thanks.

The net-wireless/zd1211-firmware package doesn't include zd1211rw, you can check what firmware drivers it include by running

Code: Select all

qlist net-wireless/zd1211-firmware|grep firmware/

You can keep changes to $HOME by setting up a secondary partition on the usb stick that you're booting from if any or follow directions on the F9 boot option.

We stopped providing an installer wizard for a very long time now and i don't think there are plans for a new one.

There is a guide in #gentoo-ten to help you clone the livedvd/usb contents to your hard drive by using binpkgs for control of what packages you want to include.

Thanks this helps a lot.

Is there a xdelta to update from the 32ul to 64bit multilib or a easy way once installed to go multilib ?

no, you cannot go from i686 to x86_64, you need to start from x86_64 if you want multilib. In terms of the livedvd, use the amd64-multilib iso if you want to install amd64 or boot with the x86_64 kernel on x86-amd64-32ul iso.
