Where ever it is being set it needs to be XDG_MENU_PREFIX="xfce-"

either you are setting it in your .bash_profile, .xinitrc or somewhere in /etc/env.d/*

changeing my .xinitrc to what you originally posted fixed my problem. Now I can enjoy my favourite window manager again.

export XDG_MENU_PREFIX="xfce-"
#exec startfluxbox
exec ck-launch-session xfce4-session

Thanks for help!
much appreciated

Just updated to xfce4 4.8. Migration of my personal panel configuration files was awfull. I lost many widgets I cannot re-install anymore like Verve or Orage time&date. My Terminal histories and tabs are lost, and finally my session is lost.

Sometimes when I close applications, their taskbar button stays in the panel and can't be removed. The only way to get rid of it is to kill and restart xfce4-panel. Is this happening to anyone else?

See my bug report.

I recently tried the xubuntu beta, and it has the same bug.

That explains it. I've been using the "draw window frame on hover" feature too.

I don't want to see them in Thunar or on my desktop but could not find how to disable this. Any idea?
I still have this issue that Thunar shows files which should be hidden, such as backup files with filenames ending with "~", or ".bak".
Is there an option somewhere that I've overlooked?
Of course, I've disabled the 'Show hidden files' option. The only difference it makes is that this hides my 'dot' files.
In the previous Thunar / xfce version the "~" and ".bak" files were properly hidden.
Thanks for any help!

I've had nothing but problems with thunar since the 4.8 update :x
Just today I tried to copy around 500MB from an ipod (used as external storage), and thunar instantly ate all of my RAM and pretty much crashed X. I've also had problems with other external drives with files not copying, drives refusing to mount/unmount (thunar's fault according to lsof in most cases), etc.

Anyone else having problems?

Seems like the latest Thunar and/or volume management took a step backwards - it acts rather flaky when dealing with removable dives. My biggest gripe is that it shows the inserted drive but clicking on the drive doesn't display the drive's contents. Sometimes it will then go and expand the side pane tree to the actual mount point. I have to close Thunar and restart it to get it to display the content of the root of the removable drive.

Haven't noticed hidden files showing up when they shouldn't.

Files named like "~foo" don't show up for me either.

And to get rid of the blah.abc~ I made a .bak/ folder and edited nanorc and/or my other editors to stick the backups there. Not the fix you want but it works.

At least I'm glad I'm not the only one who has this problem
To epsilon72: the problem is with files names foo.bar~, not ~foo
To hielvc: it's a good idea although it's a shame thunar is having this little problem...

I am also having the issue that Thunar does not generate any preview / thumbnail of any file type. I've removed the ~/.thumbnails directory to see if it was going to be re-created but it isn't.
Am I missing something?

As a last attempt to try and solve my various issues with thunar, I've wiped out all my dot config files and folders, hoping that a fresh new XFCE environment setting would just make it work. I've just managed to waste my time
oh well...

Hi

I'm using Xfce 4.8.0, portage-stable, followed the Tips for using udev/consolekit correctly, shutting down, rebooting, automounting, etc., etc., works well, but the battery monitoring plugin for Xfce-panel is having a bizarre behavior (it shows "50%%", independently of how much battery I have, the settings I use, or whatever): http://i.imgur.com/80NBv.png

Also, this is my kernel's (2.6.39-gentoo-r3) .config.

Thanks!

I hate to say this, but Thunar sucks. In addition to the issues with hidden files which are not hidden (see posts above), I have to refresh manually (ie do Ctrl-R or go to View -> Reload) to update the content of my folders. Otherwise newly created files won't appear. What kind of file manager is that?
Or am I missing something?

Like INOTIFY support in kernel, or USE="fam" not set and gam-server not installed?

Thanks. Sorry I forgot to include my USE settings etc.

Now I did not have the fam USE flag, so I've now activated it (only glib was affected), recompiled, rebooted, and checked that gam-server was installed.
However, Thunar still does not react on file changes and only will react if I refresh the view manually.

Cheers
